What really makes the combat and elbow ring so good though, is its enemy design and variety. Not only are a fair number of them horrifying, but some of these baddies are absolutely vicious, coming at you with wild swings and combos that seemingly go on forever and can hit from 10 feet away. Yeah, like that

 You also have more freedom in how you approach combat than any previous Fromsoft game, thanks to a bunch of familiar new systems that are used in interesting ways. Here you can crouch, walk, and use stealth to avoid detection, or more easily sneak up for a backstab. You can fight on horseback, you can craft items on the fly, you can summon a huge variety of creatures to fight for you, and most substantially, you can equip ashes of War to your weapons and completely change their affinity and skill. The most important element of Elder Ring's philosophy, though, is the freedom to just walk away and do something else when you hit a wall

 The two big new additions are the ability to use a guard counter by blocking an attack with your shield and then immediately pressing the strong attack button to follow up with the crushing strike that can leave weaker enemies in a crumpled state and a jump attack that gives melee wielders a new type of heavy attack that can also be used to stun enemies and leave them open for a critical hit. Elden Ring is an Arcade Game

 The first few times, this dynamic feels hardcore and "cool." Yes, I think it does feel gratifying, especially if you're young, to take down that really tough boss after trying dozens of times. But you haven't learned any useful skills. All you've done is learned to roll toward the enemy at just the right time

 No matter how big or intimidating the attack, the only safe place is right under the enemy. No matter your build, there's no way to customize around this dynamic; even with 40 Vigor, the soft cap, you'll still need to dodge at just the right time.  But then, which direction do you dodge? Often, the enemies have obscenely long reach. Which brings us to another classic FromSoftware gimmick: Rolling toward the enemy. It's the same thing with every single boss. No matter what the particular boss or the attack is, the solution is virtually always the same: Roll toward it, at just the right time

" Because they can hit you while on the ground, being hit by one of these combos is often effectively a one-shot kill. The only way to avoid this is by rolling or dodging at the right time. But what's the right time to dodge? One of FromSoftware's favorite gimmicks is to make the attack animations jerky and unpredictable. Thus, the only way to know the right time to dodge is either to know from prior experience playing Souls games, or to fight the boss until you learn the combo patterns

It's really just not that good of a game…

 - Many mobs will chain cast spells, constantly interrupting anything you do, while you watch them kill you. - Mobs have extreme reach with their weapons, while you have very little. Often, I find myself standing right next to large mob and unable to hit it with my sword at all. The swings just don't connect

 This is another Dark Souls-type game, except it's more poorly balanced than ever, making it an exercise in frustration that is more similar to Sekiro than Dark Souls (though still better than Sekiro). It's now also open world, and makes many of the same mistakes of other open world games.  Combat - Bosses and many regular mobs do constant chain attacks, with little to no opening in between that would allow you to attack. This renders slower weapons useless

 - Mobs are programmed to perfect dodge spells. You have very little "mana" to cast spells to begin with, making mage combat pointless in many situations. - Similar to spell dodging, many mobs will perfect dodge your weapon swings too, and constantly hop around over large distances, forcing you to chase after them constantly. - You can summon spirits to help you on most bosses, but the balance is completely off

 Let's focus for a moment on Halo Reach since it's the most recent addition to MCC and the first to launch on PC as part of a piece by piece roll out. In short, for a 9 year old game, it still looks quite good after its 4k cleanup and it controls beautifully. It feels a lot more natural on mouse and keyboard than when Gearbox brought Halo 1 to PC back in 2003 and offers PC centric customization options like Fov adjustments. If the rest of the PC versions stack up to this, that's great news

 Firefight is here too, and it's still a blast. It's no wonder it helps set off a wave of cooperative PvE multiplayer modes that's still going strong in games today. When the rounds got started, they were buttery smooth every single time. That's even true in Halo 1, which was never originally designed for online play

Five years after it first launched Halo, the Master Chief Collection has finally fulfilled its full fan service potential with the addition of the last piece of the puzzle Halo Reach It is a genuinely amazing package that includes six of Microsoft's classic single-player and co-op campaigns and legendary multiplayer modes. Now free of any red flag technical caveats, 343 Industries deserves a ton of credit for sticking with it after a notoriously bad start and finally delivering Master Chief the love letter he deserved. Tell that to the Covenant Crucially, multiplayer matchmaking just works! I've played around 30 rounds in the past week with no fuss, no drops, no lag, and no. BS MC C's interface lets you make awesomely specific game-mode requests

 Plasma shots and energy swords, for example, would update at 30fps, despite the game running at 60fps or greater. This resulted in jittery, distracting visual effects. This isn't the case in Halo 3, so all effects animate at 60fps or better. Explosions look fantastic, particles are wonderfully detailed, and animations are great across the board

 You can relive the original game's multiplayer madness once again, though you'll need to grind for your cosmetics again. Halo 3's multiplayer is much more lively than the past few releases, but it comes with a few downsides. AFK players grinding for XP are all too common, as are quitters who drop matches for whatever reason and handicap their team. These aren't the game's fault, though it would be nice if developer 343 Interactive patched in a way to join in-progress matches

 Halo 3's greatest multiplayer flaw is its wonky hit detection. Sometimes shots seem to connect, yet do not properly register. It doesn&rsquo;t always happen, but 343 is aware of the matter and working on a fix.

 The only real improvement is an increase in draw distance, which lets your PC render effects and details from farther away than normal. It is most noticeable with grass and dead bodies, but is not significant enough of a visual boon to keep on if your PC doesn't have the horsepower to smoothly run it.&nbsp;

Halo 3 (for PC) Review

  Ultimately, I spent $5 more for the game than I should have, and although I can "resell" the game, ultimately I just inherited the liability of having to keep track of an extra disk as well as the added hastle of removing and inserting them constantly.  Save your money, and just buy the digital copy from XBox.

Not the Entire Collection

 However, Halos memorable multiplayer modes are undermined by unacceptably unreliable and bug-ridden performance in the days after launch, to the point where I can't recommend that you buy Master Chief collection right now for that functionality. That's heartbreaking. But on the bright side, there's still more than enough single-player and co-op content here to strongly recommend it for those alone. The fan service begins right at the main menu

 The resolution and framerate boosts do give it a nice clean look at least, and with the exception of that exacerbating Cortana mission, it remains arguably the series finest start to finish campaign, complete with an ending that retains all of its emotional punch. As for Halo 4, its stunning visuals. Our Master Chief Collections most pleasant surprise. What was already a high point for graphics on Xbox 360 legitimately looks like it was made for Xbox one when running at 1080p and 60 frames per second
