 So here's a tip, go ahead and set the same device or same network name and the same password that was on your previous device or Wi-Fi router. So for example, if you had your network named home sweet home and the password was password 123, keep the same password and the same network. This way you don't have to change all your cameras, your computers and everything. Everything is just connected again to that device, which was really neat

Amazon eero Pro 6 WIFI Mesh Router System Unboxing Setup Review + Speed Test

 My old system in my old house (ASUS router and a wifi extender in a single-story home) used to drop out constantly and slowly got worse over time; I’d have to unplug/replug the extender so it would establish a new connection, and sometimes also needed to reboot the router itself. Even worse, I rarely got the speeds I was paying for. This eero system — I bought the Pro 6 2-pack — has been a wonderful improvement.  The Pros: Unlike the old ASUS, the eero interface is Apple-like in its simplicity and intuitive ease

 The units also run worrisomely hot; I don’t think it’s gonna be a real problem, but I do have to keep each one out in the open and not enclosed in a cabinet with other electronics, etc.  All in all, after a solid two months of use, I’d give this eero system an A-.

 I now have a small-ish two-story house and put the gateway unit in my upstairs office and the companion unit in the living room downstairs. Paired with a new modem, I now regularly get my cable plan’s top download and upload speeds throughout the house.  You're not bombarded with too much information, which in my opinion is how it should be. At the top, you'll see if you're connected to the internet or not, how many routers are in your system as well as their location. From there, you have profiles. These allow you to assign specific devices on your network to a specific person like your kids, for example

 And one of the benefits of this router is you can mesh multiple ones together and importantly, the Eero Pro 6 uses tri-band technology which reserves a dedicated band just for communication between the mesh routers, which will improve the speeds you get from the satellite routers as well as the overall reliability of the system. The routers themselves are pretty small as far as routers go and they aren't nearly as tall as something like a Netgear Orbi and unlike the Orbi, unfortunately, the Eero Pro 6 routers only come with one additional wired ethernet port, meaning if you want to plug in a bunch of stuff into it through a wired connection, you're going to need to get an internet switch. There's only one LED on the router that you can turn on or off in settings and that'll tell you the status of your network like if it's down or if everything is looking good. So now getting into the local area speedtest server, that's when I take away my internet service provider and the public speedtest server, and I'm really just isolating the router itself. And the reason for that is because my internet service provider is not always going to give me the speeds that they're advertising. And the public speedtest server is being requested, is actually being used by a lot of people or companies, pretty much can be at the same time as well

 With the speed improving by about 60 mbps for 5ghz and 12 mbps for 2.4ghz down. Upload remained pretty constant.  There's really only two complaints I have about these

 So now my units run cool as can be.  I found the signal for these to be just as powerful as the Eero units that cost much more. After several months, I have not had to reboot these once, nor have I lost internet whatsoever. Even with two kids playing online games and my wife and I streaming on our TV (and sometimes YouTube to boot) we never had significant loss of bandwidth or excessive buffering

 The one directly wired to my PC from the modem is putting out slightly over 450 mbps download and nearly 25 mbps upload. Wireless signal at the furthest point in my house from the main unit is around 140 mbps down and 16 mbps up with a device using 5ghz signal. Devices using 2.4ghz get around 30 mbps down and 12 mbps up from the same distance

 After several months, I have not had to reboot these once, nor have I lost internet whatsoever. Even with two kids playing online games and my wife and I streaming on our TV (and sometimes YouTube to boot) we never had significant loss of bandwidth or excessive buffering. I couldn't be happier with our purchase in the end. It is definitely worth purchasing the additional wall mounts along with these if you are in a similar situation to our household

Well Worth the Money

 It assumes you're physically close (i.e. so you can connect) to the device, which you logically would be. But what if something goes wrong and you need to dial in remotely (say, for your security system that's on it)? You can't do that with this, at least not without extra hoops

 The reason I know it's wireless is that connecting directly to the switch via Ethernet (which bypasses the Deco completely) returns expected speeds. Rebooting the Deco is the only solution I've found, but that's not sustainable during the mid-day.  I guess I'm just old school. But I completely dislike these newer routers forcing you to use a mobile app to configure them

  ❌Some devices come in as UNKNOWN and you have to figure out what it might be based on when it was connected. In my case it did this with a cellphone, which is weird, because my main cellphone (A Note 10) was perfectly identified. So that means Deco is keying off a specific field (probably some description field) rather than the standard one every device uses (device name).  ❌WPS tends to be finicky

EDIT May 2022: I have to drop the review a star due to a recurrent issue that is now confirmed to be the Deco.  What's happening, is that internet speeds via WiFi will randomly degrade for no clear reason.  I have three routers active - a TP-Link, the Decos and an Orbi. The TP-Link and Orbi internet speeds remain unaffected, but anything connected wireless to the Deco will experience sudden, unpredictable declines

 I had to do a factory reset multiple times, each time with the same result. I finally opted to exit the app and pack it all up, but once I exited the app, my device connected.  I followed through with connecting the other two units without a hitch, and wifi speeds in the home that were previously in the 10mb range are now right at 50mb. A definite improvement!  My second problem arose when attempting to connect my smart air conditioner, which only operates on the 2

  I have had the unit operational for 2 days so far, and speeds are definitely improved over the previous Archer C8 AC1750 router (which had no issue when in the home, but failed to reach the whole house when moved to the exterior office).  Overall, I would say the unit works as intended (so far), but I am disappointed in the inability to choose which network you connect to, and the inability to choose your wifi channel. You do have the option to turn off either network (2.4 and 5Ghz) You can log in manually to the router at tplinkdeco

Honest review from a techie

 For example, her devices do not have access to the internet between 10pm and 10am. Her profile is set to 2 hours a day. She would attempt to get online at 10am and insights would show multiple hours used and wouldn't let her online. I would have to increase the daily limit to allow her to get online

 We had friends in town and also have a couple of home based businesses, so finding the right time to do the upgrade was important. I'll be honest, after a week I forgot I had received the email, but someone from TP link called me one evening to see if I had done the upgrade. I hadn't so I performed it while she stayed on the phone.  I'm happy to report that the parental controls are now counting the time used correctly
