 Emphasis on the weighed because these guys are hefty at 20lbs a piece, although when I considered that I bought these for my already incredibly immovable vinyl hobby, the weight doesn't really factor marginally.  I haven't even been close to playing them at full volume, because I value my hearing.  If you want self-powered speakers, highly recommend these bad boys. You won't be disappointed. Truly edified

 Truly has to be heard to be believed. Sound is full and accurate. Also had it hooked up to the TV via the included optical cable and the foot steps and waves crashing in Animal Crossing are visceral. The bluetooth works fine, but these speakers really just reveal the major gap in quality between wireless and direct connected signals

 They are heavy! They are also described as "bookshelf" speakers; they are to big to be bookshelf speakers. I was going to place them on the ends of a wide dresser but they are to big for that.  Basically, what the DSP It allows you to use these speakers not only in a mid-sized room, but also in an ear filled desktop situation. In fact, for midsize room, they even have matching stands that basically have that wood accent for these speakers. now. I Want to recommend them in a mid-sized room because there's some distortion from these speakers when you crack them up high

 This speaker has its flaws too, and I'm not sure if it's the Anping or the DSP. We'll start with the DSP though before we really jump into those flaws. Basically, what the DSP It allows you to use these speakers not only in a mid-sized room, but also in an ear filled desktop situation. In fact, for midsize room, they even have matching stands that basically have that wood accent for these speakers

 It's only when you crank the DSP up. The soundstage is a tiny bit clustered. It's not like when I Compared to let's say, Cath Q1 hundreds of Q1 50s, you get a really wide soundstage with decent imaging. Now, while these do provide, you know a lot of instrumental detail in a sense where you can, you know the instruments there

 I mean it's It's not like a shiver down your spine like else 50s, but I mean at the price point it's very modest. The bass is tight that that I'll give it that, but it doesn't extend low and if you think that increasing you know the DSP will get it lower it will. You're better off adding a subwoofer, which it doesn't have a subwoofer out. So connecting a subwoofer might be a bit tricky now in a near field environment

 In fact I like these so much that I'm not sending them back I haven't told the company that yet. You usually have to send stuff back, but these these are keepers. These are really really nice now. Bit big to have next to your little monitor if you want to have it and your laptop in the middle

 They're 18 pounds each. But speakers sound. It's all about the sound. So let's start with some sound

 The cable that they use to connect the speaker's is pretty interesting. Here's a close-up and you can see: I'm going to really seen a cable like this I'm used to speakers that connect with what they call speaker wire go figure. So it's just a twisted pair. Sometimes you'll see with RCA jacks on both ends, but this is sending a lot more data

 but these, these are some crazy cool speakers. They're heavy, they're big beasts. They're 18 pounds each. But speakers sound

The Splendid Edifier S1000DB Multimedia Speakers - REVIEWED!

 Apparently Edifer didn't think of that. It's also unfortunate there's no way to change the input mode without using the remote control — if it ever gets lost or broken, the speakers are useless!  I connected via Bluetooth from two different iMac computers, an iPhone SE, an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3GS. The iMacs and the iPhone SE were able to connect with the latest Bluetooth 4.0 standard, while the older iPhones use Bluetooth 2

 In other words, you can't just disconnect from a device and then try to connect with another, you've got to turn off the first device's Bluetooth, or else tell it to never pair with the Edifer again.  The color of the LED on the front panel tells which mode the speakers are in, (e.g.: blue for Bluetooth), but it doesn't indicate whether it's actually connected with something or in the pairing mode; for example by flashing the light

1, There wasn't much difference among all the devices I tested. In all cases there was still the annoying latency that made it impossible to watch videos with sound routed to the Edifer speakers via Bluetooth.  I might even be able to over look all of those flaws, if the Edifer S100DB speakers had an analog output and/or sub-woofer connector. If connected via Bluetooth (or preferably, via a direct digital connection), there'd at least be some way to connect an auxiliary amplifier and speakers, or a sub-woofer to make up for the low-end response the Edifers don't provide

  I expected the Edifer speakers to perform somewhat comparable to the $300Pair KRK RP5 G2 Rokit Powered Studio Monitor Bundle I purchased a few years ago for an audio-related lab I work for. Before buying them, I thought about buying a new set of Rokits for myself, but I decided to buy the Edifers instead, because their connectivity would be easier to use and more flexible in a home environment.  The connectivity features are pretty much as advertised, though they have some flaws. The analog inputs work just as you'd expect; plugging into a computer, iPhone, etc

So Many 5-Star Reviews Were A Red Flag

 While they cannot perform at the same level as some speakers their size, they do an adequate job for their intended purpose at that price point. I don't expect a lot from shelf speakers that are internally amplified and have extra internal circuitry for use with Bluetooth. While the bass is not what you would want for primary speakers, they do a good job of filling a small room with sound. Because they are self-amplified, I can use multiple music sources such as the cheaper Sonos Connect ZonePlayer 90 instead of the more expensive amplified ZonePlayer 120, so it saves me money and space

 Going back and forth from Bluetooth to a configuration like I use with Sonos can be too much trouble for some people.

 While the bass is not what you would want for primary speakers, they do a good job of filling a small room with sound. Because they are self-amplified, I can use multiple music sources such as the cheaper Sonos Connect ZonePlayer 90 instead of the more expensive amplified ZonePlayer 120, so it saves me money and space. And if needed, I can set them up with my smart phone for on-the-go parties*. They are ported in the back and have a small red light in front on the primary speaker when powered on

 I haven't tried fiber optic yet but if I wanted a wired connection I wouldn't have even looked at the Edifiers. They are quality built, very nice and quite heavy. The bass is deeper and the sound is fuller but I'm not convinced they are better or "audiophile" grade as advertised. I will update this review if they break in and get better but Im pretty sure they are not going to break in any further

 I'm giving a 5 star rating because I hate negative ratings but I probably should have rated 3 or 4 based on the price vs sound. I am pretty sure I could beat the sound of these with an amp and speakers for $350 if I searched. So my advice is get the 1700s and enjoy what they give for the money but I am not sure if I would buy these again. I am thinking maybe the Edifier 2000s might have been the best ticket
