I was looking for a new bag with features that would make it more comfy to carry my computer and essentials like plugs / battery packs / umbrella on rainy days / pens / a pad / my lunch box / and one to two water bottles. I drink protein for breakfast and in the summer would like to carry water as well. My old bag only held one bottle and when I stuck my lunchbox in the bag, it made it jet out backward. It felt heavy and was not liked by fellow subway riders

The carabiner on the front broke off the bag within a couple of months from simply attaching a lunchbox to it. To be clear: this is my dedicated commuter bag and it couldn't even survive three months of my 12-minute commute to my job. As simple as that may seem that missing feature has me considering returning the bag. For my office setting, I need a briefcase (optics/professionalism)(I know, yay, corporate America), so that shoulder strap would be awesome, also carrying the briefcase by the handle, takes away the usage of whatever hand I am using to carry the bag. I've only had this a day, but the straps are uncomfortable, half of the zipper is missing for one pocket, the back itself is uncomfortable and somehow they made the bag look like there was coffee spilled on it while it was still in the plastic bag. Its not a great feeling when a 14 yr old laughs at it and says I'm not trading. I was personally willing to spend $200, but wanted a SwissGear due to how awesome the previous backpack was. Maybe they had a manufacturing problem a few years back or they don't like making products that last a long time

Unfortunately my old Swiss Gear backpack started unraveling and one zipper broke so it was time to get a new one. Wow, they have changed. I really liked how my old one had all kinds of holders that zipped open inside the main front compartment. Now they are just sewed openings and not as plentiful

Cons: It was much heavier than my old backpack, and the amount of padding seems excessive for the size of the bag. It also did not fit fully under the seat for any of my international flights on the trip, so I ended up resting my feet on top of it. I'm short, so this wasn't too bad, but would likely be an issue for taller travelers. I didn't really want to use it on the flight home and was just going to take my purse, but it was so bulky (even empty!) it didn't fit in my suitcase

I still haven't found a bag that is GREAT for a large laptop. Today's laptops are thin, which makes the corners susceptible to damage. But this bag, as with all other bags I have found, just barely fits the 17" laptop and I feel the corners are not well protected at all as there isn't much padding there. The laptop also pushes out against the zipper pretty hard if I'm not real careful about tucking the laptop into the pocket, it's that tight, so I'm not sure how long it will last without blowing out
