  Verdict: I think this unit has it's quirks (all mentioned) but overall it does cook well and does a tremendous volume. I subtracted one star for the flimsy user interface -- it really cheapens the whole unit. I think if the price is right, it could be a good addition to your home.

 The unit is easy to clean and the drip pan is a nice plus. Does a great job with fries and shrimp. This fryer was well packed and fully operational when received. Not a bad starter unit

 I like being able to see the browning without opening the basket and letting out heat. With energy prices going up, it seems an advantage to have the smaller appliance and less cooking time.  If there is a downside, I am not a fan of the knob dial. I would much rather have push buttons to adjust temperature and time, but this is just a preference
