 So why this part of the ski gets pulled down towards the midpoint, putting most of the side cut right in the center portion of the ski, nice and loose and smooth here in the tail. So you can really get that drifty performance out of it. And then pretty low splay here on this 100. I think that works well for these tour skis because it keeps more of the skin on the ground, better grip for uphill

 And then we have the RP shaping. So we talk about this a lot with their DPS skis is, you know, when they're, they basically have to adhere to a 15 meter turn radius, regardless of size. So the longer a ski gets, the more dramatic the rocker profile and the taper shape will be, the shorter it gets. It's not quite as crazy, but they're keeping this thing at a 15 meter turn radius

 So with that construction, they are using a Polonia wood core. They have ash stringers, two ash stringers running through the middle, and then they use their algal technology, which is basically they're taking their sidewall material, which is of the same product, and running a strip through the middle. So another stringer, so two ash, one algal running through the middle of the ski, and we've seen this kind of sidewall material used in the center strip of skis with some other companies, DPS uses hybrid wood core where they basically just use wide sidewalls that extend into the middle of the ski, or Rossignol's line control technology using ABS material. So this is DPS's version where they use a stringer going through the center core of the ski, that keeps it pretty stable and smooth

You might not even fully realize just how much you want a ski like this. For high-volume ski touring, steep-and-rowdy firm-snow ski mountaineering, and work-week, headlamp exercise skinning, a lightweight set-up based on the K2 WayBack 80 is just the ticket. The featherweight construction flies uphill. The narrow and stiff construction grabs on the steeps but gets bucked around in tougher snow. 
This is a specialized tool. You won't pick these for day-to-day backcountry skiing. Deep, perfect powder snow is enjoyable, but bigger guns will be even more fun. Any sort of poor snow &#40;breakable crust? Slop?&#41; is better handled by a bigger and heavier option. All small skis are under-equipped for tough snow, but the K2 does better than most. It is this ski's more forgiving tough-snow performance that edges it ahead of other close competitors.

Obviously I won't be taking these out for powder laps but for long/fast and/or late season missions this is a great choice at a great price. Match them with a race binding (I mounted a Plum 150), light boots and race skins and you'll have a setup you won&#39;t mind hiking with to find snow in mid summer.

I got these for late spring/summer use and couldn't be happier. They are very light but can still be skied hard. I have found they shine on steep icy slopes (skied bulletproof on Temple SW) and they handle those horrible summer sun cups just fine. Compared to the Waybacks 88s I find they are a bit less grabby in breakable crusts and easier to control on steep ice
