But these really set themselves apart by being lighter but performing the same, if not better. Just that those two full sheets of carbon really, really make a big difference in terms of how this ski responds but still has such a light weight to it. In terms of the shaping, the C2 has a longer effective edge than the RP

 So that's why a lot of these DPS skis look pretty unique. In terms of that rocker profile, not a whole lot of camber underfoot, it's going to sit pretty flat on the snow, especially in the soft stuff. A little bit of a turned up tail and pretty dramatic rocker in the tip. So definitely going to get some good flotation here, not a ton of splay, but the combination of that rocker with this tapered shape, that early taper, does make this 106 float pretty darn nicely

 Same thing can be said for the tail, pretty rounded off tail there, not too flat. So if it was flatter, it would keep you locked into the turn more. This more gradually tapered tail shape allows you to dictate the duration and the consistency of the turn, makes a more playful ski when the tip shape is rounded, just more surfy and more smeary. So that's kind of where they're going with the shaping of their skis, and it does work

 Today we've got a DPS Whaler 106 with an alchemist build and a C2 shaping.

 So these skis are actually unchanged for this year and really best suited for that advanced

 skier, expert skier who's looking for a little bit harder of a charger, especially in longer

 But yeah, if you're looking to get out there and make some bigger turns and softer snow,

 these are incredibly stable for how light they are, and DPS has done a really nice job

 at keeping that progression moving forward with these skis, and they're skis like this.

 Overall, I feel as though I'm going to have some fun on these. Didn't get to ski powder but I feel as though they would perform well in anything up to 15-20cm as the previous qst 99 have and possibly deeper (we don't get POW very often here) I know reviews are sparse on these at the moment so happy to give feedback as I ski them some more through the rest of the month.

I have just managed to secure a pair of these in NZ and taken them for their first spin today. I usually ride the qst99 from two facelifts ago.  Today, although it is spring we had a nice winter feel to the mountain and I skied these mainly on groomers with a little off piste but was a bit cruddy. Handles groomers extremely well compared to previous model, to the point I felt I had just been taught to carve again

 The extra rocker in the tail made for some nice playful turns and they felt stable in the air (lighter than previous model?) when jumping  side hits. I chose the 183cm which is probably short for me at 6"2 but it was all I could get over here. Overall, I feel as though I'm going to have some fun on these. With high scores across all testing metrics, the M6 transmits a magnetic and confidence-inspiring ride to the skier through all types of terrain and snow conditions. Whether the forecast is unclear and snow conditions uncertain, staying true to your “Mantra” is what we recommend. With three of Volkl’s Tailored Technologies underfoot, be prepared to tackle anything the mountain throws your way.
This year Volkl introduces their 3D Radius Sidecut technology to the M6 Mantra. Boasting three different turn radii within the side of the ski, the M6 can achieve a different turn outcome depending on skier input. This new technology admittedly took some getting used to. However, we found the tech especially helpful when merging onto a new run with more traffic or exiting a mogul field back onto the groomer. The M6 Mantra is on the damp side of the spectrum for skis. But we can’t complain when the overall result is the superior combination of stability and maneuverability that this ski offers through icy groomers, afternoon chop and slop, and deep pow days.

On the heels of the extremely successful and well-loved M5, Volkl hasn’t rocked the boat too much with the new M6 Mantra. It remains an extremely powerful and precise all-mountain option that’s perfectly happy in the hands of hard chargers at speed. Volkl did make some tweaks to the Titanal Frame construction: shorter skis now have less metal and are a little softer, while longer options are stronger with more metal. You also get the brand’s 3D Radius (also found in the Kendo below), which effectively gives the ski three different turn radii. In practice, it’s pretty impressive, and the M6 feels comfortable at everything from tight and quick turns to wide GS sweepers.

It’s a close call between the M6 and Nordica Enforcer above, and both are versatile, standout models. In parsing out the differences, the Mantra is noticeably wider at the tip (by 8mm), and its stiffer build gives it the advantage in terms of stability. But the Nordica is more comfortable in tight spaces with its nimble, easier-to-manage flex (this also makes it a better option for intermediate-level skiers). Both are excellent one-quiver options for riders that spend the majority of their time on groomers or in regions with moderate snowfall.
