The previous version had 2 upper and 2 lower compression straps- these offered a very useful way to provide extra security to large water bottles, and to strap on picnic blankets etc.  Unfortunately the new version only has the upper straps, the straps are more narrow, and there is no abrasion-resistant flap reinforcing the compression strap attachment points.   Samples I have seen in store feel much more sloppily sewn and the fabric feels cheaper.    

Previous version was MUCH better

It’s very lightweight but it lacks even the most basic attachments that I find useful. I do t care for the waist belt, it’s off set. Overall it’s fine for casual urban/local hikes but carrying the ten essentials, food and water strains this pack due a total lack of structure.

A little too basic

 For example, I cannot squeeze my Bose headphones case in this. if I wanted to use it as a carry-on I'd have to put that in that main compartment. So again, something you can kind of squeeze in here. but it does have some nice size in this pocket so of course you're gonna have your main compartment

 So let's go ahead and start with this and hopefully you can see easily fits inside. And I did mention that I can't put the Bose headphones in the front of the bag just because something opening here, but I will put it towards the top of the bag. Then as far as this main compartment goes, I'll finish with just a nice puffy jacket to take out the rest of the space [Music] and I will also include just a couple of other items I have a 10,000 milliamp hour battery I'm gonna put in this quick grab pocket and I'm gonna include just a 16 ounce in now gene bottle this is from REI and since it is kind of puffed out, this is where you can utilize your compression straps towards the top of the bag and just compress those down. So let's take a quick look at what this looks like when it's packed

 The Deuter Speedlight 20 like I mentioned, it is a 20 liter day pack. This pack retails for approximately $75 So what are some pros and cons of the bag? So I'll start with the pros. To me, this feels like a very well-built bag that offers some neat features and seems to be very lightweight. I Also feel it is a comfortable bag and I love the backpack straps and I like the fact that it does have that sternum strap

 So the tube wrapped around the side of my shoulder before connecting at the chest. I got annoyed just walking at home for five minutes like this. No way I could use this all day on a trail.

  Final thoughts: All things said I love the bag, but will scope out the 20L one. I have filed for a return, so if you'd like a deluge of images of me shoveling various things in it for the next 15 days or so to get a sense of what all can fit, then send me a message; I'll try and entertain them.

I bought this backpack because I need a "small" 20L for my daily use (office, commuting, everyday carry) and ULTRA LIGHT. 

I also need a backpack with a detachable hip belt. The Front pocket fits perfectly a water bottle Camelback Chute 1L. The ventilated 3D-AirMesh do it's work when I'm riding my bike. You can carry your MacBook Air 13 inside

  If you care about how this pack performs.. this is an outstanding day hike pack with room enough for a 3l hydration bladder, a few snacks, cell phone, small first aid kit, a lightweight rain jacket and more. It doesn't make your back sweaty and the straps were still comfortable even after a six hour hike

 I recommend getting a hydration bladder because the pack really isn't big enough to accept your 32oz Nalgene.  Hope this was helpful.  Enjoy :)

Short review you should read

 This one is so much more comfortable than the Flash. Feels more sturdy, but still very light weight, sits better on the back, and is just more functional overall. The zippers are good quality and the little front pocket is super convenient to toss things in. Hope this helps somebody who is deciding between the flash and the speed lite

Great little pack.

 It is the speed, light suspension, so it's a very minimal and lightweight suspension system. There is a Delrin u-shaped frame, so there's just a wire. A u-shaped wire in the back of the backpack here gives it some structure, but not too much so it does remain very flexible to work with you during whatever activity you may be doing very lightweight air mesh foam back panel, so you've got some light padding there. Nothing too substantial, so it's not super heavy padding, but it is enough to keep the pack very comfortable

 We do have some padded shoulder straps with that same air mesh, so you get some extra foam in the shoulders here and that air mesh for moisture, wicking and breathability. A really nice feature about those shoulder straps is that they are tapered with kind of like a v cut shape at the top, and that allows for some extra arm room and movement. So freedom of movement is the key with the speedlight packs, really allows easy access and doesn't restrict you at all. So nice shoulder straps nice suspension system here very light and minimal

 So you see I've got this extra layer here, there's a pocket hidden behind this front panel and there's some stretchy mesh here. So you can really stuff some items in there and have easy access to those extra layers to that extra gear on the front of the backpack, so nice additional pocket there on either side under that compression we've got stretchy water bottle, pockets or energy food pockets. So pretty small pockets. You could definitely fit a smaller water bottle in there or if you just need some extra snacks or food, you can store those there as well

 I like that this pack can handle excess weight such as when you have excess food or water in the pack. If I got another pack I would definitely choose one that offers a similar feature.

**Overview**: This is long term review of the Zpacks Arc Blast. I got this pack as a Christmas gift in 2018. I've used it for hundreds of miles and at least a dozen trips. I was not involved in the customer service or ordering of the pack other than I asked for it for Christmas and was under the tree in time for Christmas

The pack has proven itself to be durable under bad bushwhacking conditions. I have scraped it pretty badly on trees and brush and only the outer polyester layer of fabric has [punctured or torn]([URL REMOVED] The inner layer of DCF is unscathed. Under general scratchy scraping through brush there is no damage whatsoever.

- ZPacks Arc Blast - Sort of unbeatable for the frame comfort at the weight. Genuinely waterproof. Pricey. I don't own one, but I've tried it on for half a day to feel it out

 In case you want to hear what "waterproof" really means; I'll tell you, it's this, not something that requires a rainfly - I've taken this pack through its paces on really demanding long trips, including one that required ~50 river crossings in about 3 days and I've left it outside my bivy overnight in drenching rainstorms. Never had wet gear. I think it holds weight well and undersells the interior space because you can extend the roll-top.

 Pricey. I don't own one, but I've tried it on for half a day to feel it out. Reminds me a bit of the airflow on my Exos frame. The DCF is thin, but if you're not putting serious thru-hiking miles on it, you probably won't have durability issues

I'm looking to replace my Teton 3400 pack with something more lightweight and/or comfortable. Right now I'm between the Mariposa 60 Backpack, 40-60L Sierra Designs Flux Capacitor, or Osprey Atmos 50 or 60 but I'm open for other considerations. Max capacity around 60L and max weight of 5 pounds (ideally around 3 pound mark). I'm looking for something with decent exterior pockets including hip pockets and easy access pockets/mounts for bear spray. I've been trying to minimize gear weight to make the weight of my camera gear more manageable but if a pack can make a load more comfortable then that would be okay too. This pack would be for multi-day trips through significant elevation changes. Water resistance out of the box would be favorable too. I'm also slightly below the average male height in the US for size considerations. If you have any experience with these packs or have another you'd recommend that would be great.

Looking to Upgrade Pack

On paper, this pack still won out. Weight, load carry capacity, variable torso length and hipbelt size, cuben fiber qualities(weight, waterproof, durability), ventilated back panel are all key features that in conjunction with eachother make this pack stand out against the rest.
