The previous version had 2 upper and 2 lower compression straps- these offered a very useful way to provide extra security to large water bottles, and to strap on picnic blankets etc. Unfortunately the new version only has the upper straps, the straps are more narrow, and there is no abrasion-resistant flap reinforcing the compression strap attachment points. Samples I have seen in store feel much more sloppily sewn and the fabric feels cheaper.

It’s very lightweight but it lacks even the most basic attachments that I find useful. I do t care for the waist belt, it’s off set. Overall it’s fine for casual urban/local hikes but carrying the ten essentials, food and water strains this pack due a total lack of structure.

Final thoughts: All things said I love the bag, but will scope out the 20L one. I have filed for a return, so if you'd like a deluge of images of me shoveling various things in it for the next 15 days or so to get a sense of what all can fit, then send me a message; I'll try and entertain them.
