 The open world is totally huge. it's it's massive and it's filled with quest givers almost like The Witcher 3, But unlike The Witcher 3, I found most side quests to be repetitive and not very much memorable, save a few here and there. The progression and loose systems worked fine and well enough, but they weren't really deep enough to compel me to give a damn about many of the side quests. But thankfully on the flip side there are secret dungeons called cauldrons which are a bit like the little hidden dungeons in Assassin's Creed 2 and they are crazy fun

 Even though the health system is really forgiving, you can get your ass beat. Still, even though you're getting pummeled and killed by them, it's totally worth it because the creature and enemy designs here are very, very slick, very creative. and that's honestly what I like most about the game, is discovering these new creatures for the first time and figuring out how to take them down. That's where Horizon is the most fun

 This is where the game reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus or even a bit of some elements of Zelda. While the main quests and encounters and level designs are designed very well and tend to be a ton of fun and challenging to play through, the side quests are where the game sometimes loses me.  Using your focus scan to plot out weak points and set traps and then launch the offensive is really fun, especially because it can get really difficult at times when some enemies can cream you in one hit. Yes, you will get one or two shot at a lot in this game. Even though the health system is really forgiving, you can get your ass beat. After I Learned how to fight competently, Horizon continually made me feel like a ridiculously accomplished warrior without sacrificing the vital sense that every major battle could easily result in my death. Dodging attacks requires constant rolling, all the while using the quick, on-the-fly crafting system to build Mo specifically to counter the threat. Not that Horizon encourages you just to blindly wander into every fight and start shooting

 A lot of the machines roam in packs, so if you're not careful, you can be outnumbered within seconds. To counter this, there's generally a chance for a stealth kill it's ashame. Luring specific machines away from their packs is so time-consuming though often simple hunts for a single animal evolved into massive fights. Alternatively, a Louie doesn't have to do all the work herself, as she eventually discovers how to override the machines brains as you upgrade your skill tree

Horizon: Zero Dawn Review

 She explores every nook of the world around her because there are mysteries buried quite literally within every mountain.

Aloy’s quest is split into two sides, which ultimately intersect. There’s the personal: she needs to know where she came from and who her mother was. When Aloy ultimately leaves her village, she’s pulled unwittingly — as in most grand adventures — into a larger quest to save the world from a nefarious evil. The entwinement of the two paths inspires her to uncover the mysteries of Horizon’s far-future world and how it came to be

Horizon is at its best when it gives you the freedom to use Aloy’s plentiful skills however you see fit. Aloy can learn to create traps and avoid direct combat for the most part, or she can create an obscenely powerful bow capable of firing three flaming arrows simultaneously. Eventually she can earn the ability to take control of certain robots to aid her in battle or travel. Figuring out which abilities to focus on, and how to utilize them, is one of the most satisfying parts of the game

 (A large-scale battle in the game’s final hours is easily the least enjoyable part of the game — though it’s at least followed by some explosive and lengthy story reveals.)

Prehistoric meets futuristic

When fighting breaks out, Aloy utilizes a large variety of weapons. Aloy's spear is her only melee weapon, but it's effective at knocking off enemy armor plates and causing significant damage to both machines and humans. She also employs bows for shooting enemies at different ranges with specialized arrows that cause elemental damage (or have other effects). She even uses tripwire guns and slings to fight and control the battlefield

 You start with simple and limited weapons, such as a basic bow and arrow and a shocking tripwire gun, but eventually you'll juggle multiple slingshot-launched bombs, manually placed traps, sniping- and medium-range bows, and an arrow-shotgun that fires bolts at close range.

It's easy to be overwhelmed if you aren&rsquo;t prepared for combat. Thankfully, Aloy has Focus, a relic from the old world that serves as a short-range scanner by highlighting nearby machines and humans. Focus also lets you follow tracks and see the intended paths of nearby machines, giving you a distinct upper hand when sneaking and stalking.

Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition (for PC) Review

 You can hunt the robot wildlife and recieve crafiting and upgrade materials from them. I highly recommend hunting, crafting, and upgrading Aloy as much as you can as early as you can so there isnt a disconnect from the game if you need to pause the story progression in order for you to level up. The game also has extra content DLC that comes with the complete edition (which is the copy i am reviewing) or can be purhcased separately through the Playstation store. If you purchase the complete edition all the dlc packs and levels are on the disc but the digital artbook and PS4 theme come on a DLC code

Dawn the New Horizon

 Now you might be saying, but Dan, she's had a tough life. It makes sense that she's not cackling with joy. That's a valid point, but let's compare her with Cassandra from Ac Odyssey. Cassandra was thrown off a cliff at a young age and grew up as an orphan on a poverty-ridden island

 What can I say? I'm a lover, not a fighter. Unsurprisingly, Horizon Zero Dawn is no different for me, and while the combat isn't my favorite part of this game, there is an incredible degree of depth and room for player choice which engages me in a way that most other games fail to achieve. and so I did have more fun with the combat in this game than I normally would Ailoy has a variety of tools at her disposal to deal with enemy threats, and her most prominent weapon is the bow. There are three main categories of arrow shooty things

 There's also a typical leveling and Rpg light skill system where you unlock new abilities like concentration, multi-shot arrows, and other more passive traits. We've all seen this stuff before. Horizon Zero Dawn does all of these things well, but aside from the combat, not many of its gameplay systems are innovative. It takes ideas from other franchises and either builds on them or just integrates them well, and there's nothing wrong with that

 But don't let the beautiful environment take too much attention because the world of Zero Dawn is incredibly dangerous as well. The ruins of civilization are teeming with killer machines that want nothing more than to tear our protagonist limb from limb, so this is probably a good time to talk about how Alloy can defend herself against a horde of killer robots. I usually play video games for the story instead of the combat. If you've watched some of my other reviews, you've probably picked up on the fact that I typically don't enjoy fighting waves of goons as much as making impactful story choices, exploring or engaging with the characters

Is HORIZON ZERO DAWN Still Worth Playing in 2022? (No Spoiler Review)

 It's enjoyable at first, but the more you play, you relize it just drags on and on and on. 

Ps.: Here's just a reminder. I was just talking about the bad stuff here. Because everything else has already been discussed many times

But for this review, I will mainly focus on the game's bad side. And there's plenty of that in the game.

  You can only have 4 weapons on the wheel at once, but you have 3 bows, 2 sling shots, a rope caster, a trip caster, and a rattler. They should have condensed the bows and sling shots into a single weapon and the rope and trip casters into a single weapon. You end up having to go into your inventory and swapping out weapons for each fights and it's rather annoying,  The quick access menu for traps and potions is VERY poorly designed. You have to scroll through the entire list one at a time to get to the item you actually want

TL;DR: Play the game, but skip the dialog and cut scenes.  First what I liked: The combat is fluid and engaging. You definitely can't go in guns blazing into every encounter. You need to plan your attack or you will be facing an uphill battle
