This one has an on/off toggle switch and then you have to press the up or down button to change speeds. I guess it is just too high-tech for me but I just prefer the old fashioned up and down slide for the speeds. The mixer looks nice but I just miss my old mixer. :-(

It whips eat whites to nice stiff peaks on moment and tackles sugar cookie dough with no issues. The power is smooth and easy to control from the slowest setting. I'm speculating (after 30+ years as an engineer) that the materials used in the gearing that engages the rotors is not made for consistent use under heavy stress (like cookie dough, for example). My problem is that I'm going to expect this model to last about 2 years before needing to be replaced so I will either need to purchase a backup or find a commercial hand mixer using more robust materials.

Just received my new hand mixer today! I was so darn disappointed that it DID NOT come with a STORAGE PLAN! Come on KITCHEN AID! I will note here that this mixer is noticeably slower than our old mixer so that may be a contributing factor to the longer time required to beat egg whites but I’m uncertain as to why it’s still so efficient with whipped cream. I didn’t try the beaters for the egg whites so they may actually perform better than the whisk. I’ll have to experiment with that another day. My final complaint was also discovered while beating the egg whites

I ultimately chose the HM-90S for several reasons: 1. Cuisinart seems to be a trusted brand for small kitchen appliances such as hand mixers and blenders. (in my opinion) 2. Extra attachment accessories that it comes with: flat beaters, chef's whisk, dough hooks, spatula, and storage case
