Cuisinart WAF-F20 Double Belgian Maker Waffle Maker Review

 I swear. Why is it so hard to get a waffle iron that does not suck, these days. Instead, I had an old Cook's single flip waffle maker I bought on sale at JC Penney years ago, that lasted forever. Cooked waffles evenly, never gave me any crap until it finally died

  Because of the peeling non-stick coating, I am returning this and trying the single waffle Hamilton Beach 26031.

Nothing metal

 I find, after I have flipped both sides to get the batter to distribute, I have to rotate it to the halfway point and cook them sideways, to keep it from popping up and open while cooking under pressure and steam escapes.  At settings or 5 to almost 6, the waffles have been too crisp and stiff. I am trying lower temps and figuring out the timing, so I can remove waffles before the "time's up" timer goes off. It seems to cook them too long

Avoid this: Simpler is better.

 • No batter portion scoop – not a problem for me since the Cuisinart came with one, but had I bought only the Black & Decker model I would have wanted a portion cup. • More compact design – definitely easier to store! • I liked the black plastic exterior – cleaned up easily and did not streak and smudge from the get-go as happened with the stainless steel Cuisinart. • Removable plastic drip plate beneath waffler iron is nice for easier clean-up • No beep notifications. A light tells you when the iron is heated, but nothing to tell you when the waffle is done cooking

 The waffles still tasted great, but it meant that the Black & Decker only cooked 1/3 of the waffles, whereas the Cusinart with the beep signal allowed me better productivity. • Reviews said that this iron needs plenty of oil between each waffle, but I did not have any trouble with sticking at all. • Like I said, neither the Black & Decker, nor the Cuisinart was quick to clean up. And the waffle plates are not removable on either product

Comparison of the Cuisinart and the Black & Decker double waffle makers

 (See close-up photo of a leftover piece of mine, measuring a full 7/8” thick.) They were SO good! But the finish at the latch looked like it may begin peeling off at some point, and I really need an entirely different type to also enjoy making them.  So, I’ve sent it back and am now looking forward to making many different kinds of waffles, very soon, with a Cuisinart model that is both stationary and has removable iron plates that I can easily hand-wash in my sink.  Thank you, Amazon, for making this exchange process so easy — and so fast! And thank you, Cuisinart for offering such a model that also includes an extra set of iron plates so I can use it to make four 4” pancakes instead of four (although somewhat smaller) waffles if I want!

 It was so HOT on Level 4 that I decided to wait to wipe it off when I was done making one pair of waffles. That took only a few minutes, but it was another 30 minutes before I could wipe off that baked-on batter. It wasn’t too noticeable, but I could tell that I’d really mess up its nice silver finish in a matter of months bc I intend to use it more than once a week.  I’d be less likely to drip batter onto a hot waffle maker from a batter cup held by my right hand if I didn’t need to close it up and then turn the darn thing upside down quickly with my left hand, so a stationary model would be a better choice for me

  So, I’ve sent it back and am now looking forward to making many different kinds of waffles, very soon, with a Cuisinart model that is both stationary and has removable iron plates that I can easily hand-wash in my sink. Perfect Crispy Belgium Waffles

 Too expensive to keep replacing every few years. Either make it a lot cheaper or make it last 20 years.:.

 We discovered Cuisinart took over making this and that is was essentially the same product. It is used weekly on weekends. The center element is starting to become finicky again (outsides cook, insides of the waffles do not). Handle sometimes doesn’t close properly and keeps “popping”

 So with the new Cuisinart I've carefully cleaned all cooking spray and food from the cooking grids after each use. Waffles slide out, no sticking and the Teflon coating is like new after two months of use. I hope to keep it that way. It's a great double waffle maker

 Take care of it (cleaning and handling) and it will likely last a very long time. Highly recommended!

Replacement for our identical 20 year old Ware Double Belgium Waffle Maker

 She took all of my information, twice, in fact, because their system had been glitchy all day and the first entry of my info disappeared when she tried to submit it all. When I asked her what I should do with the defunct unit, she said, "Oh, just throw it away." I confirmed with her, "Really, you don't need it back or anything?" But she assured me, "No, unfortunately, there's nothing that can be done with it. Just throw it away

Mixed Feelings

. I'm hooked!  It was simple to unbox and nothing to set up. It was plug it in, turn it on and wait for the light to tell you it was hot enough to start cooking. I made up batter from a recipe I found on YouTube and brushed the griddle with some vegetable oil just to make sure they didn't stick

 The cup it comes with is the perfect size; I filled it up and poured it onto the griddle and it turned out to be the perfect size! After filling the one size, we closed the lid and flipped it. It turns very easily and locks sturdily in place when you get to the opposite side. Filled the cup up again with batter and poured onto the griddle. Closed that lid and flipped again to the other side

I have NEVER cooked a waffle in my life and the picture above was my absolute first try. I can't say I've been a big fan of waffles throughout my life. More of French Toast type of person; but after trying one of these.

 While it's my first time making waffles and I'm not a frequent waffle eater, doesn't mean I can't appreciate GREAT waffles and this machine clearly makes restaurant quality waffles. We already did another batch today and we are going to start experimenting with other things you can cook up in a waffle iron (as we are finding on YouTube).

The Hamilton Beach Flip Belgian offers the ideal blend of performance and cost. While this model certainly isn't perfect, the increased cost of getting a higher quality product won't necessarily be worth it for many consumers. This unit's cooking performance was squarely average. When set to some of the lower cooking settings, waffles would often come out unevenly cooked with varying levels of brownness across the length of the waffle. Our testers found fewer inconsistencies when set to higher cooking settings. The built-in timer was reasonably accurate and reflected the actual level of doneness selected. Our testers appreciated that the overflow basin was removable and dishwasher safe. Few models we tested have this feature. If you value cleaning convenience, this could be a key consideration. We found that batter would stick to the basin horribly unless coated with a serious amount of cooking spray. The basin is also quite large, and our testers never had any batter spill onto the counter. 
This model felt moderately safe to operate. It has no on or off switch but immediately starts heating up when plugged in, so you must remember to unplug it after cooking. The biggest issue with this model is how inconsistent it can be. While it often produces yummy and evenly cooked waffles, it will often turn out one with various levels of doneness and textures. If your looking for a decent waffle maker at a reasonable price and don't mind some cooking inconsistencies, you'll be more than pleased with this model.

  We did opt for the copper color grills, believing they may have better and longer-lasting non-stick properties, and wanting to get away from the "flaking" black colored grills that more than one review talked about. It was a good choice..

We purchased this waffle maker to replace an older, similarly styled (flip) waffle maker that decided it was time to move on to the next life (that would be the recycled life or a landfill, wherever they took it). The old one was really nice, heavy, sturdy, and it had a light to let you know when the waffle was done. It's still available, but only for more than twice the $79.95 we paid for it a decade or more ago

 it's probably in the description someplace, and we were just probably spoiled from our other waffle maker. So each waffle needs to be timed on a clock/watch/timer so as to get it done and not over-done. If slightly under-done, you can just close the unit again and give it another minute. The time will vary based upon the temp setting, the waffle mix and maybe the day of the week

  One nice feature is that it's easy to clean up, at least with the copper grills, and assuming you don't over-fill it badly. With a little practice on the first waffle or two, I was able to determine just how much batter to pour into it using a 1-cup measuring cup, and by pouring fairly evenly all the way around the circle, I had virtually nothing to clean up. If anything oozes out between the grills, you just leave it there until everything cools down and it comes right off. There's a nice removable plate that catches any larger overflow, but if you over-fill by that much, you just need to cut back
