Best Slow Cookers - GearLab

The brown function works great.  However, the slow cooker function does not heat the food up sufficiently.  I had a pot roast in on the low setting all night (about 12-14 hours) and it still was not completely cooked.  I switched to the high setting on slow cook and it still did not heat up equally to my inexpensive Crock Pot

Ok but not Great

 I knew to never use metal utensils in the pan, but because I only own wood or silicone utensils these days, it never occurred to me as a potential problem.  Unfortunately, here's what happened one night: family event, lots of people enjoying chili, and while I was outside socializing, well-meaning friends emptied the pan into leftover containers, rinsed and filled the pan with hot water and soap, and tossed in all of the used flatware (metal). During cleanup later that night (or was it the next morning ;-), I found two noticeable scratches in the bottom of the pan. Ok, I know that cooking/stirring with metal was not advised, but just tossing in forks/knives for soaking is enough to scratch this surface to pure shiny aluminum?  And the scratches to pure aluminum? I am not sure because I do not have access to a laboratory micrometer, but I am sure that I put my deodorant on thicker than the non-stick coating on this pan

 Heated more evenly, but the crock started showing stress cracks in the bottom within a few months. Finally, after three years, a move from the fridge with prepared food directly to the base unit (on low) shattered the crock. 2015 - Cuisinart MSC-600 3-In-1 Cook Central 6-Quart  I am so sad that the quality of the Original Crock Pots has diminished, but I am happy that I found my Cuisinart 3-in-1. We are no longer talking "crocks" here because it seems like current-standard stoneware is just not what it used to be, but I am satisfied with the all-over heating with this new cooker

Love It, Use It Often -- but easy to scratch the pan

 not a big deal, but you have to watch everything and confirm that youve in fact turned the cooker on and heard it start before walking away for the day.

 not sure if i would use this to steam vegetables -- microwave or quick dunk in boiling water to parboil might be less involved and faster. left one star off b/c of material and controls. 1. material -- im not too sure of the nonstick material the insert is made of -- its a weird teflon-like material that says its bpa free but in general i dont like cooking in this type of material (i prefer stainless steel, cast iron, or enamel, for health reasons)

 i'm very very happy with the quality of the food i've cooked so far (short ribs, turkey broth reduced down for thanksgiving gravy, and an indian red bean curry -- i plan to try pot roast this week, and steaming fish next week). i like this cuisinart model infinitely better and wish i had never bought the other 2. not sure if i would use this to steam vegetables -- microwave or quick dunk in boiling water to parboil might be less involved and faster. left one star off b/c of material and controls

very happy with its functionality

 Remember, any crock pot should only be filled to 2/3, not the top that is shown in all pictures on any box. We had started with a lot of veggies and potatoes and found we were already at 2/3 on this 3.5qt before we could even add the meat, so we switched to the 5qt. But then you do not want to always use a 5qt either, because you do not want too little in

 Realistically you will likely need both a 3.5 and 5 quart crock pots to select based on the size of the recipe. We still use this 3.5qt most for 2 of us, but have on occasion found it filled too quickly and switched over to the 5qt

 For the second meal shown in the video (pulled pork), it too cooked longer than needed the first time, and was better the second time when we checked the temperature earlier and confirmed done earlier. The best success we had with this was making pulled pork. Btw, I skipped showing the steps testing the meat temperature, adding the BBQ sauce, and using a fork to shred the pork.

  The construction and quality of this pot seem very good to us. The lid is standard thickness for crock pots, and there doesn't seem to be any need for it to be heavier while it is cooking. It does build up condensed water around the ring of the lid and bubbles out during cooking as it continually pushed out steam. The 4 settings seem to give you plenty of flexibility, but we use low for most, and the automatic switch to warming mode is nice

Great for Small Recipes or 1-2 People, Easier to Clean

 It's the perfect size for a single person (like me) to make a meal and have leftovers for one or two more meals later in the week, or for a couple to have a meal. Also, I'm fairly new to slow cooking--this is my first one. That said, I'm an avid cook and baker. I decided to give it a try because I liked the idea of coming home once a week or so and having a meal virtually ready to serve

 The ideal amount of meat is probably somewhere between 1 and 3 pounds, depending on what else you put in with it. It has four temperature settings: three for cooking (high, low, and simmer), plus a fourth setting (warm) for once the countdown timer on you selected cook setting reaches zero. This is great for anyone who works days that are longer than the recommended cook times. Personally, I've found that the low setting corresponds well with what most cookbooks recommend for the low settings

Love it!

 Mine is a one-person household and this is the ideal size for me; anything smaller wouldn't make enough leftovers.  The included cookbook has nutritional information - number of servings, calories, carbs, fat, protein, sodium, and more - for all 50 recipes. I gave it four stars instead of five because it's not what I consider programmable, but I'm very pleased with it for the price.

 IMO, a truly "Programmable" cooker would change heat settings during cooking, and perhaps have a delayed start function; this unit does neither.  On the other hand, the Simmer setting is what's missing from some other slow cookers, and perhaps that's why foods get burned. This cooker heats to 185°F on Simmer, 200°F on Low, 212°F on High, and 165°F on Warm. Some cook books, including Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook, assume that Low is 180°

Not really programmable, but better than average quality.

 Regardless of Cuisinart's response, it is the last purchase we ever plan to make from that brand or any of the other brands owned by the parent company. We bought what we thought was a premium product at a premium price after multiple bad experiences with CrockPot in recent years. We truly thought the Cuisinart would resolve the issue's we've had with CrockPot products. The Cuisinart is no premium product, clearly

 The inner pots (original and replacement) have ALWAYS been washed by hand, using a plastic scouring pad suitable for use in a non-stick product (and used with all our other non-stick items without any problem). The cooking utensils are all plastic/nylon type utensils, and at no time as a metal spoon, fork, knife, spatula, etc., been used in the original cooker or this replacement cooker.  Our bottom line is that we will contact Cuisinart on Monday and strongly request a complete refund, since this is still under warranty, but beyond the Amazon refund period

Convoluted interface; Unreadable Screen, but GREAT Customer Service

 I was brought up on the "old" way of cooking... like planning a meal and not being able to have instant food, other than a microwave oven which doesn't "cook" food very well

 The stainless steel liners that came with my Instant Pots still show no rust after four years - they were obviously made with a higher grade stainless steel than what Zavor chose to use.
