they are, but you have to do things in really precise steps to get them to work. First off, forget their cloning software. I never could get it to work. Also, you cannot install these in an external M2 container and plug them into a USB port

Again, the key is to make sure in your BIOS settings you configure your M.2 socket to run off the PCIe bus (at x4 instead of x2) rather than off SATA--otherwise your PC may either not recognize your 970 NVMe device at all, or it does but the 970 will not run at its full PCIe x4 speed. Only time will tell if this was a worthwhile purchase vs. perhaps just buying a 1 TB SATA SSD for almost the same price instead
