CRKT Minimalist cleaver
Topic of the Week - Week of February 22, 2021 - Packing your fears
Through many others, I finally have been using the CRKT minimalist and actually just ordered a SpyderCo LadyBug (supposed to be about 15 g). I don’t think I’ll ever be someone who ditches a knife completely or goes the razor blade route, but I’ve definitely shaved a lot of weight over the years.

Am I the only person not crazy about the BUGOUT?
I've never had one open I'm my pocket, but mine doesn't see a lot of pocket time. The bugout, and para 3, both feel a little flimsy in the hand. Even with gym shorts I'd rather carry something with more heft (Kershaw Blur).

CRKT Minimalist Cleaver
The packaging was simple but very nice. It was a green CRKT small box that had the brand written in white. Sturdy cardboard and very satisfying to open. The unit inside was placed inside a plastic sleeve in it's plastic carry sheath. It came with a belt clip and lanyard and can only be mounted longw...

Handle

CRKT Minimalist cleaver
Outer layer of handle wears thin.
The outer layer of the handle is so thin that it is worn through in multiple spots straight from the seller. It gives the handle of the knife a very shop-worn appearance right out of the box. It makes it look like someone has used the handle portion of the knife for a long time.

Really not a fan of the thumbstud
This knife feels very nice in my hand and is very satisfying to open, when I can actually open it. The angled thumbstud just ends up being sharp against my thumb since it's so small. Most of the time, my thumbskin aganst the stud just ends up being pulled downward when I try to open the knife, which...

CRKT Minimalist cleaver
Good stuff, but room to improve
The design is killer. Potential to be one of the safest camping and survivalist knives one could get for its size. Two downsides I see: -Bead-blast finish is nice, but prevents the spline from being effectively used as a striker for ferrous rods. A quick run over the back with a sanding bit on my dr...

Durability

CRKT Minimalist cleaver
Great little knife. Would make a great gift.
Great little knife. Comes razor sharp. Sheath is secure but if I comes loose I will just heat the plastic and push together to make it tighter again. Highly recommended, especially for under $30. Also very small so keep that in mind.
