We've had an "on-again, off-again" relationship with the Contour Hybrid Mix climbing skins. We loved them at first. They first held this award almost five years ago. Then, the performance of that pair rapidly degraded. We fell out of love. In that testing &#40;and we aren't super proud of this&#41;, we ignored maintenance and manufacturer's maintenance recommendations, and our experience suffered. Essentially, the stickiness of Contour's Hybrid glue fails with time and without cleaning. Cleaning isn't the simplest task; other skin glue formulations fail with time and use. That part we were familiar with. Other skin glue formulations, though, require reconstruction to renew stick. As it turns out &#40;and Contour makes this clear&#41;, Contour Hybrid skins can be cleaned briefly, and glue performance snaps back to nearly new. We neglected that, but now we've come around. 
In our defense, Contour has also gotten smarter over these years. They now ship the skins with their cleaning product. That same cleaning product is now far more available for purchase, separate from the skins. The Contour cleaning product works better than anything else we tried, to the point that the performance we award requires the use of Contour cleaning product. Next, let us look at some branding matters. We discuss Contour Hybrid Mix skins here. This same exact configuration &#40;as best we can tell&#41; is available under other brands too. Notably, our latest test pair is actually sold as Backcountry Access Climbing Skins. Regardless of the branding or history of OGL skin maintenance, these are great climbing skins. Either of our top award-winning products will serve you well. These are the absolute best performance but require more and earlier maintenance than the Pomoca Climb Pro S Glide.

Like the GlideLite above, the Hybrid Mix features both mohair and nylon for the most popular combination of glide and grip. The main distinction here is Contour’s hybrid glue, a unique technology that merges features from both standard (“hot melt”) and glueless skins. Contour’s Hybrid skins adhere securely to your skis (even at low temperatures), rip off easily when it’s time for the downhill, and—here’s the true kicker—are easy to revive with a simple wash (most skins require regluing).

Like most modern skins, the Hybrid Mix comes in six different sizes with hardware preinstalled. The tail clips make it easy to adjust length with a simple pull tab, although it is worth noting that their plastic build gives us slight pause when shoving the skins into our pack. Contour’s quest at being the masters of plush continues to pay dividends. While their tail fix buckle requires widening the ski tail notch for best performance, in my opinion it’s the best out there. Their variety of hardware tip/tail fixes is unmatched in the industry. And most of all, their Hybrid adhesive is now in a mature state of development — we love it

 The width helps with that as well, by providing more surface area to resist slippage to the side.

Regarding Contour’s skin attachment tail clips. I’ve used most brands and designs, in my opinion the Contour tail clip has the most positive “snap” action when you flip it into position, the least slippage, and excellent damage resistance. On top of all that, they’re easy to length adjust. Super, no exaggeration

The Pomoca Climb 2.0 is a cost-cut version of the highest award winner, Pomoca Climb Pro S Glide. The glue, fabric, and tip/tail kit of the Climb 2.0 are exactly the same, as best we can tell. They even both ship with the same elaborate, rigid, zippered case. Virtually everything we say about the Climb Pro S Glide can be said about the Climb 2.0. Both have balanced, optimized performance. 
The only difference we can gather is in use of a factory treatment. The Climb Pro S Glide has, as the name suggests, Pomoca's "S Glide" treatment. When new, the treated, more expensive skins do indeed glide faster and we have to attribute this to the treatment. However, when both types have been broken in by about 50,000 vertical feet of skinning, our testers cannot notice a difference.

Best for Most

  These are not for the backcountry, their grip is subpar for any angle over a 7-degree riser. The tail retention is a laughable, small piece of plastic, that once <10F, lost retention of its elastic strap as the strap hardened. Speaking of <10F, beware that this is the threshold of the adhesive of both skins failing despite no snow contamination, making for an unexpected sufferfest 200' post-hole ascent while my buds and some other locals laughed at me, towering over me as I was waist deep.  The tip clip fell off often as it is a removable wire bale held with a plastic clip system; think of BD's adjustable system but without the metal securing cap

 If you are a low-angle aerobic athlete, conscious about weight, and occasionally appreciates accessing some mild schusses, with some money to spend, do not use your gear too hard, or are blindly loyal to Swiss gear, these are for you. Otherwise, save yourself the frustrations and explore other solutions.

 Speaking of <10F, beware that this is the threshold of the adhesive of both skins failing despite no snow contamination, making for an unexpected sufferfest 200' post-hole ascent while my buds and some other locals laughed at me, towering over me as I was waist deep. Also, both of the tips' manufacturing logo plastic pieces, fell off in within the first hour of climbing, not even while breaking trail. A buddy found one, the other is trail refuse for the Spring

Explore other options or only use for on-piste uphill travel on groomers.

 On all but super icy or steep skin tracks, they hold to the slope and make for efficient travel.

 It’s not the least expensive skin out there, but the performance, quality of materials, relative longevity and reliability make it worth that cost. I’ve got to say, the yellow has grown on me too.

I settled on a relatively wallet friendly, yellow middle ground: the Pomoca Climb 2.0. Heading into their third season, these ‘golden slippers’ (pardon the pun. Or not) have proven themselves exceptionally well in a variety of climates and conditions
