My only gripe is the sheath, which has NO holes near the bottom for attaching cordage to secure the end. Whether your aim is to wear the blade at your side, diagonally across your back, or horizontally on your belt behind you..

 Not sure what steel it's made with, but it appears to be made in El Salvador. (Be sure to check other reviewers to see how the blade fares when clearing brush, because any high quality blade should be able to take a lot of punishment chopping wood without chipping.) The handle feels comfortable and gives good purchase. Though it could use a few thin coats of varnish to better protect the wood

You're considering a $65 machete?  Quality: The quality of materials and craftsmanship Condor puts into the Golok are great. Thick blade stock, distal taper, very good factory edge, great sheath. As a tool, though, I didn't like it, both for its heaviness and weird ergos. Due to the thick tang and chunky wood scales, the handle is overly heavy, and overly large to hold on to

 However, the Golok is unnecessarily expensive for a machete. In the marketplace of "machetes" high-value is the norm.  There's a Condor El Salvador with polyprop instead of wood, for $54, or you could go with an Ontario 18 and "GI" sheath for about $35 or $40 (but you'll need to sharpen). At that point you've lost the allure of wood handles, brass pins, and leather sheath, but you can still chop like crazy

Beautiful tool! It feels as amazing to use as it looks. This is mostly highly rated for its great handle and condor’s durability. Downsides is it requires a lot of maintenance, and several tests with it, much cheaper machetes out performed it. High maintenance, but high quality.

 That, and the weight, make it tiring to use. Being so thick, I think, keeps it from slicing as well as my other machete. It’s good for using like an axe, I suppose. I much prefer my CRKT machete which slices better and requires much less effort to hang on to

  I also examined the Camp 18 that I also received same day and it was flawless. I have yet to put it through a workout but I'm certain that it's a beast. It is razor sharp and I mean RAZOR SHARP!! I'll write a review of the 18 under the Camp 18 section but I wanted to share that this defect on the 10 was not present on the the 18.  Please don't let this prevent you from buying the blade

  This means that this is a defect in the manufacturing of the blade or blade sharpening. I never used the blade but had I, I have no doubt in my mind that those faults would have cracked through.  I provided pictures for you to see. I rated this a 3/5 instead of a 1/5 because the knife is a beast and though the flaws were there it's still razor sharp

 It was flawless to the naked eye and RAZOR SHARP. I will put the Camp 10 through a rigorous workout and report back But for now this is just to confirm that you can get a good blade. How often do the Camp 10 have these defects? Only the reviews will say for sure. See you all soon

It's critical for you to inspect your blade's edge even right out of the box.

 The actual edge is a secondary bevel that's shallower that I expected to see on a blade like this, and actually looks like it was polished a bit at the factory, which I did not expect to see at this price point. The problem is with the secondary bevel; the steepness gives great bite into whatever you're working on, but at the same time, it reduces strength. Combine a fairly soft heat treat, where the blade hardness is comparable to an axe or hatchet blade, and it's easy to nick or ding the edge and create a flat spot. If you accidentally hit the ground or a rock while using this blade, expect to get a ding in the edge

 The shorter blade and lighter weight compared to the Golok, combined with the saber-ground edge, make it both more maneuverable, easy to control, and efficient. I got more clean hits when chopping than with the Golok doing the same work. If you're looking for a "big knife", "big chopper", or a "one tool" cutter/chopper for camping, this is the best value for the money I've ever seen. You won't be disappointed

 Overall though, as I use the knife and will be sharpening it, I'll convex the edge for more strength and durability. If you take this knife into the woods with you, make sure you have some kind of sharpening device; you'll need it.  In sum, an excellently designed knife and sheath, at a great price. I compared it with my Condor Tool and Knife "Golok" machete, and much to my surprise, the C10 out-chopped it, and was much better for lighter cutting tasks

 After taking a green kitchen scrubber to it to get the pine sap off the blade, it wore through almost completely. Normally this would be a significant issue for me, but given the price point of the knife, I can accept it.  -Blade, particularly edge, grind. The blade is what's usually referred to as a saber-grind; a full thickness section along the spine or back edge of the blade, tapering linearly down to the edge

Good quality, not without flaws, but overall an incredible value.

 I typically build small camp fires, and because it doesn't really have a full tang, I wasn't about to do any batoning with it. For what I do with it, it's great. Do not expect this knife to be an all-around knife for your camping and fire building adventures. This is NOT a heavy-duty knife
