Condor Discord Machete Fixed Blade Knife Gray vs Cold Steel Gladius

Mine came with the tip slightly damaged which I had to file out, hence the 4 and not 5 Star review. I used it to chop down a dead scrub oak about 4 inches across and It held up with no damage/wear and the finish cleaned easily. The overall fit and finish is good, not exceptional, but better than what I’d normally expect with a machete. The blade is sharp, though not razor sharp

Other than that is seems very sturdy and rugged. Overall I am impressed if o ly by the value of this piece..

This scimitar like blade is both lighter, faster, and actually cuts better due to it being easier to swing. See the attached photo for details.

In fact I am glad to have the opportunity to make a custom grind angle leaving the bevel at the tip more obtuse and “apple seed” shaped creating a stronger point than a normal version of this item would have. I would be curious if anyone else has received a blade in this condition, I assume the quality control person at the factory was hung over and or drunk that day. It happens to the best of us.

I am a Prime member; I received my Discord in two days; I only give it 4 stars because it did not come with the sheath as pictured on Amazon; it came with the sheath as pictured in the old Condor catalog with the two retaining straps; It is very difficult to put this blade in the sheath without cutting the straps or your fingers. I was hoping for the newer? sheath as pictured on Amazon. I am not going to return it. I will most likely have a kedex sheath made for it

I tend to rate products on a cost-driven curve, so keep that in mind when reading. I went with three stars simply due to what I view as the relatively low price paid for the product.

I should mention it's heavy, but I like the added weight for cutting. If you want ultralight, look elsewhere. If you want a beast that won't crap out on you and you can give to your kid someday, this is the one.

Breaks are not. I used it to limb lots of downed branches following a severe storm. It worked acceptably, but it's heavy. The tip didn't prove fragile but I wasn't deliberately abusing it

Very high quality steel to work with, very sturdy steel. The micarta handle is lovely, good texture and grip to it. Way better than the other machetes I've used for making clearings. Very good feel to the swing

This style sheath makes getting the Discord out fast a no go and returning it to it the same. I'm going to have to have a sheath made for it I'm sure. For that reason I go 4 stars because of the lousy sheath.

not a huge deal however the uneven edges were a huge disappointment and no product people pay decent money for should be so irregular coming from a reputable company such as cold steel, no excuse for crappy quality workmanship. sheath was of decent quality but a bit on the cumbersome side when drawing or replacing blade so i'll see about modifying it to suit my needs or have a custom one made. that said it is sturdy and should do what it is meant for, just wish they'd make a quality true sword version of the gladius under their far superior sword line. would have rated it lower but really for the $25 it cost I wasn't really expecting a showpiece and it is a lot of fun to use

My main criticism is that the grip diameter is a little large for me. Used with both hands it feels great but it's awkward chopping with just one hand.
