Codenames vs Calico

And I found it really hard to keep track of which words were mine - I had to write them onto a piece of paper and make sure my words didn't relate too much to my opponent's, otherwise your partner might guess a word that is for the opposing team! Not even sure where that timer comes into play because we took forever in giving and guessing clues. I guess because words can be interpreted in so many different ways and there are so many different patterns, you can use this set for some time before it gets old. I kind of feel silly now because I thought this was a strategy board game - I sent one to somebody for Secret Santa … hopefully they liked it? I do agree that this game would be better suited for older teens and adults. Not sure if I can see younger children getting into it

Ok so I tried that “I’ll wait until it goes on sale” bit; nope not this game this game sells out so quickly I had been trying to get this game since Christmas finally came back in stock and snagged soon as Amazon told me “it’s here” the game is challenging in which your trying to score points by having cats come to your quilt collecting buttons and the tiles already on your quilt your trying to score as well lots of ways to score challenging to get all of them to do so. I love the cats they are so cute I love the materials the game is built to last I did laminate the score pad (or page) so I can use that one over and over again of the game is hard to keep in stock…. Can’t imagine reordering the score pad. All in all great game don’t buy it overpriced this game should be retailing close to $40, perhaps it’s not on a grand scale to making copies it did take time for another wave of this game to come out

I think it's fantastic that someone who started their design career with something as niche as TtA has managed to produce one of the few true breakouts into mass market popularity from hobby boardgaming with Codenames. Such a simple, fun, and *teachable* design that can get almost any group enjoying themselves within a few minutes.

However, the only sad thing is, that at the start of the game you will not have a chance to add design patterns as they are unlocked by completing quests. But at the end of the game when you've completed all the in-game quests, you can customise your character to oblivion with all the different types of patterns and colours they provide as you would of unlocked all of them.

It's a game that simultaneously feels like it's not long enough -- like I want there to be more strategic depth -- but also too long for the amount that's actually present. Maybe I would like it more if I reduced the starting health to say, 40 or even 30. I've really only gotten a good response from one person that I've taught it to. Maybe it's just not for my group

The game plays differently each time b/c the boards have a random chance element in how they're set up. Calico is adorable, fun, and uplifting: a good counterpoint to the typical killer-instinct board game, but competitive enough, and requiring enough strategy and planning as you set your tiles (i.e., as you "create your quilt," attracting buttons and cats to accumulate victory points), that it's intriguing and loads of fun

[b]This is long so TLDR here;[/b] [spoiler]Calico would be an amusing 6-7 hour experience for someone actively looking for something to waste time on or if you're significantly bored or waiting for something- [b]IF[/b] it were cheaper or gifted to you. $11.99 is just not worth the experience, as the game consists of a lot of back and forth and doesn't give enough content to entertain you through those long, long walks. You keep going in hopes of collecting the rest of the animals and seeing how adorable your possible new fuzzy buddies can be, only to realize how limited the animals are, how limited the cafe options are, and how there's literally nothing to do endgame that you haven't already done

Even though it says for 2 players - the play is greatly diminished in fun. It's more like one person plays and the other person sits there. LOL. booo

At the beginning of the game youre like "Yeah! I have a stradegy and im so doing this." and by the end of the game youre like "Oh my god how did i forget about that this is not what i intended but i hope i win and i tried" and i mean that POSITIVELY it's so fun and amazing game for families. Not to tricky for people who arent in to strategic boardgames but still tricky to keep everyone engaged and happy.

My friends and I play codenames online using a voice chat and have had a long standing disagreement about whether or not Googling should be allowed or not in codenames. Now, I have no issue with the occasional Google search in casual codenames. But my friends pretty much rely exclusively on Google to come up with their words and to decode them, and especially so during our server tournaments (where the hosts allow Googling).

I kept her upstairs in my bedroom the full 5 days once the apparent symptoms set in. Pretty much all you can do is to keep her indoors, away from any intact male, and wait it out.

For about 6th graders and up, Code Names is a delight when you magically find commonality between disparate words, and your teammates successfully follow the logic of your single word. This game takes some mental acuity, I would not suggest it for fun while imbibing in, ahem, adult beverages Upon opening, the game arrived with a coating of dust on the contents of the box. After a bit of investigating, I found the enclosed sand timer had cheap plastic stoppers on each end, and not one but both had managed to fall off in shipping, spreading sand everywhere. It was a bit of a mess
