 Turns out we pushed the envelope too far. After a much more lengthy return process, complete with an investigation by the engineers at Chefs Choice, we all came to learn that it was the large chunks of pearl sugar we added to our Belgian waffle batter that caused the non-stick surface to fail. Since dropping the pearl sugar from the recipe, the second replacement waffle maker provided by Chefs Choice has performed flawlessly while making tasty waffles, albeit ones that have been kicked down a notch.

This came highly recommended by America's Test Kitchen. As noted by others this does not really make "Belgian" waffles. Rather it makes more-or-less standard (thinner than Belgian) waffles capably and consistently. Two caveats, however

First waffle maker we've had and we couldn't be happier. I disagree with some reviews and feature lists I've read. I do like this waffle iron and would purchase again, but to set the record straight: - Clean up is easy, even if you spill a little into the overflow, everything wipes up with a paper towel (just need to be sure you spray/oil before the first time you use the waffle iron (may not be necessary with the non-stick coating but it is recommended) - The more crisp setting still leaves the middle moist - it does not crisp all the way through, but the texture is still great - The color is not quite uniform on any of the color settings - going to a higher setting does produce a darker waffle but the edges do not cook as much as the middle (heat distribution could be better, but it is cooked through) - The cord does not retract. I read a description that said it had a retractable cord

Good waffle maker, but want to set the record straight...

 Just like anything, this takes a little bit of trial and error to make sure that a) you use the right amount of batter and b) decide which setting is best for our tastes. After I figure out the ideal amount of batter I am going to draw a fill line on a plastic cup so that we get the right amount each time. Even though this is the Belgian style model, these waffles are pretty thin- which is ok with me but if you are expecting thick waffles, this is not the right iron for you.

A good choice

 The only complaint was the family wanted large Belgium with deep holes and these are more flat along the line of freezer style size. But the reviews of the Waring ones were so bad I went with this.

Everything it said it was

 The appliance is small, compact and not heavy which I like, but is a bit flimsy. I would not want to treat it too roughly. Overall, I am pretty happy with the purchase.

 The best thing we found to do is make the waffles, freeze them and then when we want one put them in the toaster oven for a few minutes. AND finally..

 I will start with the CONS: the handle gets extremely hot, the buzzer is really loud, the waffles take longer to cook than the timer says. You lose a lot of heat when the top is opened, the waffles are removed, non-stick oil/butter is used, then new batter poured in. The devices takes that much longer to heat up but the timer doesn't seem to notice so the buzzer goes off and your waffles aren't done. The waffles are not crispy on the outside and soft in the center, they are soft all over

For what I paid, this machine should perform better

This is a great waffle maker, we have used it for 2 days now, making 10 to 15 waffles. Everyone of them coming out perfect. The bad reviews for this product are from idiots that either don't know how to take care of their things or just like to complain. Don't use oil, butter or cooking spray like some of these Dolts have, turn it on, let it heat, pour 1 1/4 cup of waffle batter in the center and close

Great waffle maker

 This waffle iron feels flimsy and not well made, as evidenced by the malfunctioning alarm sound. I give it 2 stars because I like the depth and size of the waffles it makes and it is convenient to be able to remove the pans in order to wash them.

This waffle iron does what it's supposed to do but we bought it specifically because of the removable Dishwasher safe grid plates. Removable plates not dishwasher safe as advertised

  I had it replaced under warranty, which was nice, but now the replacement waffle maker is doing the same thing.  There seems to be a design defect with this waffle maker that causes the beeper to go bad, probably due to moisture from the steam.

 Same thing happened. After 15 minutes, the maker said it was preheated. I had knob set on 3. When the first batch was done, they looked good but a little lighter than I prefer, so I turned knob up to 5 and when it preheated, I put in the second batch of batter

This waffle marker is great and easy to use! The book comes with helpful tips and delicious recipes my only complaint is; is that the handle get REALLY HOT so if you buy this be carful! Otherwise I would give it 5 stars all around!

I bought this 3 years ago from a Wirecutter recommendation because I loved the plates could be removed for the dishwasher. But after using this for 3 years, once every 3-4 months, I don’t like this waffle maker at all. The browning setting is inconsistent, the done signal beep is inaccurate, and all my waffles come out totally flat instead of fluffy, no matter the batters I use. However, it IS easily cleaned in the dishwasher

 I would NOT recommend this waffle maker at all, especially given the price. A basic intro waffle maker would be a better value. I don’t make waffles too often so it’s not that big of a deal, but I’m still bummed about my decision to buy this waffle maker because I’m never excited to eat the waffles from this machine.

 I had over a year and nine months to make the decision in purchasing a brand new waffle maker, so I decided to make the purchase on Amazon.com. At first glance I thought the Krups Belgium Waffle Maker would be about the size of 8 inch cooking pan. In reality the waffle maker is more like 12 inches long and some what bulky for my kitchenette

 Now I have a a full meal and a happy belly. Cleaning the waffle maker is about 2 1/2 minutes. I like the fact that the griddle plates are removable and easy to wash. I never regretted purchasing this item from Amazon
