2023 Capita Mega Merc Snowboard Review

 What's going on? Shane Serrano here, coming to you from Radio Boardshop in Aspen, Colorado.

 And in this video we're checking out the Capita Mega Mercury.

 This is a board that a lot of people have been excited about, so let's dive into it.

 Alrighty, so here we have the Capita Mega Mercury.

 The souped-up, premium build-out of one of Capita's best all-mountain boards, the Mercury.

 This was a brand new addition to Capita's lineup last year in 2022, and it was one that I was super hyped on.

 This was the board that I would grab when I wanted to ride fast, charge hard, and just dominate the mountain.

 This is an all-mountain, free-ride board, and because of its nature, it wants to ride hard wherever it is.

 It is an aggressive ride that will give you a lot of energy, but that also means that this is not the board for any beginner.

 Just like in the regular Mercury, you will get Capita's Resort V2 profile.

 So traditional camber past the inserts throughout the board, and then towards the tips you'll have reverse camber, and then Capita's Wapow Flat Kick technology.

 All of this gives you a super lively and poppy board.

 Additionally, this profile gives you exactly what you want when riding steep, free-ride terrain with the stability of the camber and the float in the nose and tail of the reverse camber.

 When you first check out the Mega Mercury, you're going to notice these indentations running through the middle of the board and in the nose and tail.

 This is what Capita calls their 3D Thermo Polymer Starship Core, and this is where they have 3D profiled the core.

 This not only reduces the overall weight of the board, but also strengthens the stress points in the snowboard and adds for a more responsive ride.

 With this 3D profiled core, the Mega Carbon Array in the core of the board, and Capita's Mega Light Skin Top Sheet, this is one of the most premium boards in the Capita lineup and on the market that you can find.

 And not only will you feel those premium qualities when you ride this board, but just picking it up in a shop, you will feel how lightweight it is, the reduced swing weight of it, and just the premium touch and feel it has when you're holding it in your hands.

 On the underside of this board, you're going to get Capita's latest and highest quality factory tune, which they call their Moonshot Omnitune.

 With that, you'll get built-in structure right out of the wrapper, which will make this board super wax absorbent and super fast.

 The Mega Mercury retails for $799.95 and comes in sizes 153, 155, 156 wide, 157, 158 wide, 159, 160 wide, and 161.

 In the Mega Mercury, you will get a stiffer flexing board that has a directional flex.

 When you go to flex this board, you'll immediately see how responsive it is and how aggressive of a ride it will give you.

 With that in mind, know that this board wants to give you its performance at top speeds. It wants to go fast everywhere and charge hard throughout the mountain.

 With that, you might find this board is kind of twitchy when you are at those slower speeds.

 Because this board is so aggressive, if you are between two sizes when deciding on this board, I suggest going with the smaller one.

 This is a lot of board, and going smaller will just make it more manageable when you are riding it.

 Having owned many, many snowboards myself, the Mega Mercury was the highest performing, most aggressive snowboard I've ever had.

 It's the most premium board I've ever ridden, just from the feel, and it was one of my favorite boards of all time.

 Like I said, this was the board I was picking up to go ride if I was riding steep, free ride terrain or just wanted to go fast on any day.

 But my favorite place to ride this board was in the halfpipe.

 When you set that edge, it just wants to hold it and track up the wall to give you maximum boost.

 So who I would suggest the Mega Mercury for is that advanced and expert level rider.

 This board is no joke and it really wants to ride hard everywhere.

 Because of its aggressive nature, if your riding level is below that of this board, it will absolutely show you that.

 But for that rider who likes to go fast everywhere, charge steep lines, boost side hits or just charge in powder, this is the board for you.

 You really do feel its premium core construction right off the bat and it makes for a really special ride.

 Profile wise, there's a positive camber running to right outside the inserts, where it then blends into an early rocker rise. If you're venturing off-piste, these rocker sections will help to lift the front end of the board, and with a slight setback in the stance you get some extra volume in the nose to capitalize on getting that lift in the powder. A man we got lucky with some great conditions to test it out on, and we found its performance in the backcountry was up there with the best directional twins we rode all season. But in many other respects the board performs like a true twin, and in fact Capita for this season have reconfigured the stone grind to deliver equal performance and glide whether you're riding in regular or switch

When you look at the shape, there's no taper and the flex is symmetrical, so back on the piste and in the park this thing absolutely rips. There's also a very subtle inverse sidecut right here in the middle of the board, which applies some extra traction to make up for the shorter effective edge from that rocker in the nose, and the mid-body camber gives really good grip when you're railing through a turn
