 Well, the 900 watt hour battery obviously gets you more range. During our standardized range test, I was able to rack up almost two and a half thousand meters of elevation gain before I ran the battery flat, which is insane. Certainly For those who are regularly hitting up big rides in the mountains, the bigger battery option does make sense. Boost addicts and heavier riders will also appreciate the bigger 900 watt hour battery, which pretty much eliminates any range anxiety whatsoever

5 inch acid guy on the front and a 2.6 inch Minion Dhr2 on the rear. Confirmed weight for our Canyon Spectrolon Cfr test bike is 21.92 kilos

 I've also had concerns about the battery door, which seems somewhat flimsy with just a magnet holding it in place. Those who regularly ride in muddy conditions, we'll want to keep an eye on this part of the frame as I can see the battery door being pulled open by a shoe clumped up with mud. There is otherwise a decent amount of mud clearance through the back end. While there is a bit of a loam shelf behind the bottom bracket, the main pivot is well shielded by a neat rubber flap

Canyon Spectral:ON Review | A Better e-MTB In Almost Every Way

 It's just one of those bikes that I'm really drawn to because keeps the weight down and then at the same time you've got like a 485 reach 437 chainstay keep you nice and stable at speed. Then pretty stoked about some of the spec choices they went with this build. It's got like a 3c Maxis de Sector tire on the rear which I've been really impressed by and just seems to roll pretty good which accentuates the spikes performance. and then I have not been spooked by it once on the way down just seems to grip really well

 I've been running the compression wide open and with a roughly 76 degree seat angle and some 4 37 chain stays, it's uh, pretty good at tractoring up some of the steeper climbs without kind of fighting you. Yeah, I've become quite a fan of like the 150 150 travel setup on this bike. It's like just by, you know, not dealing with a 160 travel in the front just makes this bike a little bit more agile feeling and honestly, just like a little bit more of an all-rounder Just one of those bikes just really encourages you to get out and pedal because just doesn't fight you as much as some of the bigger bikes and just the kinematics of the rear end. Definitely feel like it's got some more anti-squat than you know other bikes in the kind of horse link category

 feels so good and I find myself just popping off things more than I would just having a more playful time. It's stable without feeling sluggish, which can be kind of a fine line. You know, with today's bikes getting bigger, slacker, more capable, This thing just really retains that zippiness that we all love about smaller bikes, but also gives you the capabilities of getting gnarly like you're on a big bike. Another standout thing is just like kinematics on the rear end

[music] Today I am fortunate to be able to ride the Canyon Spectral 29er Cf. It's pretty lightweight bike and a nice build out with some carbon handlebars and carbon cranks. So one thing to note is uh, we actually received the Global spec with a Pike and a deluxe rear shock and the North American spec comes a little bit earlier with a Fox 36 and a Dpx2 in the rear. This definitely feels like one of the better pedaling kind of horse link yoke style bikes I've been on

Sorry for the long post.  I’m looking for a new bike after not riding for over 15 years.  My current bike is a 1996 Klien Mantra Pro that was part of my compensation package when I built the Klien website for Gary Klien back in 1995.

Over the pandemic I started watching a bunch of mountain bike focused YouTube channels and realized just how much mountain biking had changed.  Not just the bikes themselves (modern geometry, 29” wheels, disc brakes, no front derailleur) but also the places to ride.  No more riding on hiking trails but riding on trails that were actually made for biking.  

Seeing that I had several mountain biking areas close to me I decided to get my Mantra Pro tuned up and go riding this last Memorial Day.  Sunday, the night before I decided that it might be a good idea to ride around the neighborhood and get used to the braking and shifting again.  Got on my bike and the suspension bottomed out.  Tried to tell myself that the shocks just needed more air, but the truth was at 300lbs, I was just too heavy for the bike.  So on June 1st Memorial Day instead of going riding, I started getting in shape. I made two changes and a goal.

1. No more late night snacking
2. Exercise every day with the goal of hitting 10,000 steps

My goal was to lose 75 lbs and when I did, I could get a brand new mountain bike.  Today after 4.5 months I weighed in at 224.8 lbs and get to order my new bike.  I plan to get down to 200 lbs eventually but expect that last 25 to take a bit.

So I just turned 56, am down to 225lbs, and want to get back into mountain biking and am looking for advice on which bike to get.  To put in snowboard terms, I’m a green rider now with aspirations for the blues but probably won’t hit the blacks. Here are the top bikes on my list. I’ve got some longer travel bikes on there because even when I hit my ultimate goal weight of 200lbs, I’m still going to be a big guy.

**Polygon Siskiu T8:** This is my bang for the buck bike at $2,500.  I’d like a Fox 36 instead of the Fox 34 it comes with but full Shimano SLX for the drive train is nice.  This bike would be a nice way to get back into mountain biking while letting me save some money for an eBike later down the road.  I do have a concern about warranty since I wouldn’t be buying it from a local bike shop.

**Polygon Siskiu N9:** Another bargain at $3,300 with a Fox 36 and full Shimano XT drive train.  Same concerns at the T8.

**Giant Trance X 29 2:** At $3,500 I don’t know why I don’t like this bike more.  On paper it’s great with it’s Fox 36 and full Shimano SLX for the drive train.

**IBIS Ripmo AF NGX:** Really like this bike.  $3,500 with a Fox 34 and a mix of SRAM NX and GX for the drive train.  Lead time for this bike seems to be huge

**Specialize EVO Comp Alloy:** This bike was just announced at $3,800 with a Fox 36 and full SRAM NX drive train.  Really like the longer travel of this bike

**Trek Fuel EX 8:** At $3,900, the highest priced bike on my list.  Only comes with a Fox 34 but full Shimano XT for the drive train.

Those are the bikes I’m currently trying to decide between so let me know your thoughts or if you think I’ve missed a bike that really needs to be on my list.

Getting my first new mountain bike

. Can it take on all the terrain that comes at it by the natural? man-made tame or terrifying? There's a massive variety of trails and riding, so bring your trail riding kit, full face armor, and your shovel. Blake, We're going riding.  You've got to jump onto that ledge and then face pump that stump. Okay, right down here. hit the jump. but if you look from the top, it looks disgusting

 I like slack and stable, but not sluggish. Stiff and light, but not harsh or too fragile. Something that I can smash down the hills but still feel efficient when I pedal it. More than 29er trail bikes, the Swiss Army knives of the mountain bike world

 If you want to take on the toughest of climbs, riding spot one is Revolution Bike Park just over the border into the Welsh Hills and home to some of the most fun, gnarly and some of the biggest jumps in the Uk. Sorry, I know questions like this have been posted before. But just looking for any new input since most of the posts I found in search refer to 2021 or earlier Model Years and it seems like new tech/bikes/builds come out practically weekly.

Looking to spend not more than $1500 or so. Riding around where I live is probably split between "Trail"/"XC".  Probably a more "trail", but gotta climb everywhere.  Ideally also looking for a bike that I won't be itching to spend money to upgrade components. (I know nobody "needs" to buy upgrades, but come on... we know what we are...)

The [Grand Canyon 7](https://www.canyon.com/en-us/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/grand-canyon/grand-canyon-7/2617.html?dwvar_2617_pv_rahmenfarbe=BU%2FBK#all-components-section-tab) comes in around $1300. SRAM SX, Dropper Post, Judy Silver Air Fork. Not sure how Canyon works, but on the Canada site the also list a [Grand Canyon 8](https://www.canyon.com/en-ca/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/grand-canyon/grand-canyon-8/2619.html?dwvar_2619_pv_rahmenfarbe=GY%2FRD#all-components-section-tab) which I don't see listed on the US site.   Looks like the upgrades from the 7 are SRAM SX to Shimano Deore 12, and the Judy fork to a Fox 34 Rhythm.  Price converted to USD is just over $1500. That would actually probably be perfect for what I want. From what I've read SX and the Judy fork are "okay", whereas Deore and the Fox would be a definite step up. But, I don't know if I can actually buy it.  Canyon Canada also gets a [Stotic 3](https://www.canyon.com/en-ca/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/stoic/stoic-3/2660.html?dwvar_2660_pv_rahmenfarbe=GY#all-components-section-tab) at about $1400 (converted to USD), wheres the US site only lists a Stoic 2 ($1200 but 10sp &amp; no Dropper post), or a Stoic 4 ($2000= more than I want to spend).

The other option I see around is the [Polygon Xtrada 7](https://www.polygonbikes.com/product/mountain/xtrada-7-4/). Their US dealer BikesOnline has it around $1k. Comes with Deore 12 and thru-axles. But the fork, Suntour XCR32 Air, (from what I've seen online) seems to be a bit of a let down. Though not sure if it would feel like that to me, who's used to rigid road bike.  Also it isn't  15x110 spacing like the Canyons.  So any Fork upgrade I assume also means you need new wheel/hub as well. The Xtrada also has 27.2 seatpost and doesn't come with a Dropper. So, $1000 upfront, but get a Dropper (what are they like $150 give or take?) and it inches closer to the Grand Canyon7 in price while not having as nice a fork (but does have Deore 12). Not sure what a fork upgrade would cost/if there are any Forks worth upgrading to that would have the same 15x100 spacing.  

As an aside, what does it take to upgrade from something like a Deore 10/11sp to 12?  Just cassette and adjust the Deraileur?  Or do you need new hubs, Deraileurs, shifters, etc?

Is there a better "budget" MTB out there than the Grand Canyon 7 that is available in the US?

Just got the bike a couple days ago and today (July/9/2022) I went to Culham Trails in Mississauga and had a blast. 

I would buy the bike again

 My only complaint of the 2021 Roscoe 8 was that the front was a little heavy. Other than that, great bike! I think the 2022 model will be even better. 9/10 would recommend.
