  Everything you do on this printer is through a touchscreen and web page you access using the IP address of the printer. The response is a bit sluggish, Canon could put a better processor in it, but it's useable.  AirPrint - I have an Iphone, iPad and Macbook Pro, no problem Airprint and Macos printer setup work perfectly, no extra software necessary  Scan to Email - this is a big one for me, I setup scan to Gmail and configured two preset buttons for this on the printer menu. The setup instructions are not intuitive, you must do it through the remote web interface (browse to the ip address) and also you must go to the network port menu and change the smtp port to 587 for gmail, but it works perfectly

  Paper Handling - Tray is small 100-150 sheets, ok for home use. Scanner ADP feeder works flawlessly  Price - At $209 delivered with a 3 year warranty, this is a STEAL, this is a $400 printer  Issues:  The printer insists on going into sleep mode and loses network, cannot be seen be AirPrint or Mac OSX until powered off.  I’ve resigned myself that this is just not an always on printer, if you can live with just turning it on when you need to use it then it’s fine, sleep mode cannot be set to longer than 4 hours and I don’t see any recovery than turning the printer of and on to reconnect to the network. FOR THIS I GIVE IT 4 stars instead of 5  Canon Mac driver does not permit printing color document in Black and White, Apple native drivers do  I setup Google print, and I didn't have it configured correctly, what happens is that periodically the printer displays a error message and the network goes offline

  Print Quality - only have it one day, but the print quality is amazing, out of the box I put a magazine in the scanner, hit copy and I couldn't distinguish the copy from the color magazine cover.  Easiest printer setup I've ever seen - All cartridges are pre-installed, kudos to Canon. just take the tape off and config your network  Network setup dead simple in seconds - I used the WPS Router Pin code method, if your router doesn't do this, get a new router. You end up entering a pin number into the printer that your router issues and the setup is completed, no passwords, etc

I just received my MF644 and here's a couple thoughts from the first couple hours. I'm a typical user not a paid reviewer, although a bit more sophisticated because I'm an IT professional, so read the whole review.  Print Quality - only have it one day, but the print quality is amazing, out of the box I put a magazine in the scanner, hit copy and I couldn't distinguish the copy from the color magazine cover.  Easiest printer setup I've ever seen - All cartridges are pre-installed, kudos to Canon

 When I finally received shipment, I was disappointed to receive a single black toner cartridge for over $100, when Amazon.com provided all four colors of Toner Kingdom's product for under $80. When i called the number on the packing slip to initiate a return, the voice menu told me to choose Option 2 for existing orders, which sent me to a recorded message to go to the web. I had to call back and select Option 1 for new orders to talk to a person, who gave me the required RMA and informed me that I had to ship the toner cartridge at my own cost

Superb Enterprise-Grade Printer at a Great Price but Don't Buy Your Toner from Canon

 I am a trained engineer. Having used more than two dozen similar printers in the past, I have extra headaches with this printer. I moved the printer from one room to another; then, I had to troubleshoot the wireless network even though the WIFI signal did not change much. I spent more than 30 minutes to figure out why it went offline and found out the power off has changed the IP address to gibberish

The designer is out of touch of user experience

  Most of my printing is strictly black and white but the color toners deplete at the same rate if not faster than the black even if I use the black and white print setting.  The page life of cartridges is also a joke especially given the price of cartridges. I never get more than 2,000 pages from any cartridge without some degradation of print quality.  I would not recommend this printer

 I also work from home often and use this printer for printouts to provide to clients.  I am just about to junk this printer. Once a toner cartridge reaches 50% life according to the internal meter, the print quality is not acceptable at all. Color streaks or color dots appear on pages

MAC USERS BEWARE. I haven’t been so unhappy with a printer since 1985. This printer does not have AppleTalk, so it you want to go wireless, it’s a big deal. To be fair, customer service was very helpful, but it took a full hour to talk me through a TCP/IP installation

 Fortunately I have space for it. Luckily the wifi works great, so I can stick it in another room, even a closet. I have yet to hook up the Ethernet or USB cables. Even old 2

 It is basically a 16" cube. It is far larger than my microwave or my large toaster oven that can cook a 6-pound chicken. For some reason I thought it would be a little smaller. But that's not the printer's fault

 I installed the software, turned on the printer, added it to my wifi router using the touch screen, got the IP address of my printer on my network, and was able to access it from my computer's browser as well as the printer dialog in the system preferences. It just worked. After unboxing, I was printing and scanning in 10 minutes. The prints and scans look nice on first inspection

If your job includes retouching photos or upscaling photos, the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP-M479fdw is a better choice. While you can't print as many pages with it before the black toner runs out, it scans five times faster, and it has a higher maximum scanning resolution than the Canon imageCLASS MF743Cdw. You'll have more pixels to work with when upscaling your document or making edits to small details. The default scanning resolution is only 75 DPI, which looks bad when scanning a letter-size document, so make sure to change it first for the best results. Unfortunately, its photo printing quality and color accuracy are worse.

If you don't retouch your scanned documents and print in monochrome a lot, go with the Canon. If you need a higher resolution and a faster scanner, get the HP.

 I'd suspect that Canon does the same, but I haven't read much about it. In any case, reliability and performance can only be guaranteed if you use genuine OEM supplies, and it's particularly risky to use third-party supplies in color laser printers because of their complexity compared to monochrome printers.

Note that HP is very restrictive with cartridges. While you can use a remanufactured or refilled cartridge with an original HP chip, cartridges with non-HP chips should not be expected to work. I'd suspect that Canon does the same, but I haven't read much about it. In any case, reliability and performance can only be guaranteed if you use genuine OEM supplies, and it's particularly risky to use third-party supplies in color laser printers because of their complexity compared to monochrome printers

The Brother MFC-L3770CDW has relatively high running costs. If you're willing to spend a bit more, look at the Canon Color imageCLASS MF743Cdw and HP Color LaserJet Pro M479fdw (both use the same underlying Canon print engine). Canon and HP laser printers do allow you to run cartridges past end of life, but image quality obviously isn't going to be guaranteed.
