Brother MFC-J895DW vs Canon Pixma MG6820

They say those inks can gum up your printer. I do think that is probably why my printer broke. The generic ink worked fine at first. When the quality went down (remember the quality was never good to begin with) I set the printer to clean the print heads

Text and graphics output are both typical for inkjets. For text, that translates to being good enough for almost any business use, as long as you don't have an unusual need for small font sizes. Graphics output is easily good enough for PowerPoint handouts and the like. Most of the output in our tests was even good enough to hand out to a client you'd want to impress with a sense of your professionalism

I used the online chat Amazon Tech Support, but he was unable to help me (45 minutes online with this guy - super friendly, but no luck). He instructed me to contact Brother directly, which I did. Brother support - I tried phone and online chat to see which would connect first. Phone won at the 45 minute mark

For the massive footprint this printer takes up in my living room, I'm surprised there wasn't room to cram a USB port on the front. I'm also underwhelmed by the color output, as the colors are too dark and don't match source material. I mostly print in BW, but I expected more from a Canon product.

I've been using this for close to a year to print and scan documents and it works really well for this. The page feeder on top isn't perfect but it's better than all the others I've ever used. With others I've often had trouble where it pulls multiple pages at once and so skips some pages but this one almost never does this. The print quality is excellent especially in the vivid color mode

The photo quality, text quality, photo speed, and value are excellent for THE PRICE RANGE, though I suggest considering spending a little more for the MG7720 (see below). The MG6820 produces VERY GOOD QUALITY PHOTOS, though the MG7720 can produce higher quality photos with its higher resolution and gray ink cartridges for more color (and black & white) tone accuracy. The MG6820 gives the well-reviewed STRONG TEXT performance (for an inkjet) that all PIXMA MG printers offer and with the permanence of pigment ink for black text, too. Compared to the MG6620 that it is replacing, the MG6820 has: (1) New INKS (PGI-270, CLI-271) including a DARKER BLACK and a DEEPER (aka brighter/"redder") RED (magenta)

This printer was my first wireless and I have to say it is great. The setup was easy and I was surprised how quickly I was able to print from my devices. The NFC just made printing from my phone a snap. While printing from my laptop was as simple as hitting the icon

I use generic off brand ink cartridges and haven't had any issues with that either. It does seem to go through ink quickly. I use it primarily for printing out shipping labels and documents, all black and white. Like other reviews have mentioned, even when choosing every time to not use color ink, it still devours color ink

Ink Set-Up: Ink cartridges have an LED indicator that tells you they are in. It's a nice little feature.

It seems like they used to practically give away inkjet printers, then make up the difference by pricing the ink high. However, prices on the printers have recently gone sky high. About a year ago I purchased a higher-end Brother printer for less that this one cost AND the current one was much lower priced than new since it was an open box item.

But as it is, I have to toss a perfectly good printer in the garbage. I spoke to Canon, or rather I tried to speak to Canon's Service Dept as instructed to do by the message on the LED screen but they refused to speak with me unless I paid the $20 fee for their Service Plan. I asked the person on the phone, as they were hanging up on me, if they'd ever encountered the concept of "penny wise and pound foolish. I got no response beyond the click of a disconnecting phone line
