They say those inks can gum up your printer. I do think that is probably why my printer broke. The generic ink worked fine at first. When the quality went down (remember the quality was never good to begin with) I set the printer to clean the print heads

I used the online chat Amazon Tech Support, but he was unable to help me (45 minutes online with this guy - super friendly, but no luck). He instructed me to contact Brother directly, which I did. Brother support - I tried phone and online chat to see which would connect first. Phone won at the 45 minute mark

I purchased this model so that I could use it for all my wireless items. My desktop and my laptop does not work with it even with all the downloads needed to use it. The tablet works just fine as far as printing. Not sure if my room mate can use it, she hasn't tried it

I've been using this for close to a year to print and scan documents and it works really well for this. The page feeder on top isn't perfect but it's better than all the others I've ever used. With others I've often had trouble where it pulls multiple pages at once and so skips some pages but this one almost never does this. The print quality is excellent especially in the vivid color mode

The quality of print was great. While the product claims to save you money per piece printed, I have yet to tell and will have a better idea over time.

This printer was my first wireless and I have to say it is great. The setup was easy and I was surprised how quickly I was able to print from my devices. The NFC just made printing from my phone a snap. While printing from my laptop was as simple as hitting the icon

What I especially like about this printer is that I can work from one room in my home (a different room from where the printer is located), hit print, and voila ... my document quickly prints

I use generic off brand ink cartridges and haven't had any issues with that either. It does seem to go through ink quickly. I use it primarily for printing out shipping labels and documents, all black and white. Like other reviews have mentioned, even when choosing every time to not use color ink, it still devours color ink

The initial ink cartridges did not last long (this is common with most printers) but I was disappointed to see how expensive new cartridges are. Overall, this printer is average.

It seems like they used to practically give away inkjet printers, then make up the difference by pricing the ink high. However, prices on the printers have recently gone sky high. About a year ago I purchased a higher-end Brother printer for less that this one cost AND the current one was much lower priced than new since it was an open box item.

I would not recommend this device if you even do any sort of printing. It's not worth the price. I've spent more on ink alone than on the actual printer itself.
