Brady BMP21-PLUS-KIT1 Printer Kit Review

 I have only used one completely before it tore up. The last one I got I did not use right away and did not know it was broken until I needed to use that size label. I have purchased 4 different labels and all but one arrived broken or loose springs (inside the cartridge) or something causing it to not print, or quit printing all of a sudden. These cartridges are not inexpensive like you find with some of the Brother or Dymo

 Good printer as long as you don't mind using twice as much tape as the characters need, and if you can get a cartridge that will work past a few labels.

 I have purchased 4 different labels and all but one arrived broken or loose springs (inside the cartridge) or something causing it to not print, or quit printing all of a sudden. These cartridges are not inexpensive like you find with some of the Brother or Dymo. For the expense of these cartridges you would expect them to stand up better. Maybe the problem is with Amazon shipping, these are not the only things that arrive damaged

Like all label printers it waste a lot of tape

 On the largest 3/4" tape, you can only have 4 lines of text, and as it can't print close to the top and bottom edge, it uses a smaller font than I would like. When dealing with panel or terminal labels, the spacing only has .1" granularity so you can't do 0.75" for example, which will make it so the labels don't line up right for a larger port count

There is a lot to like about this unit. It's sturdy, the labels are the best in the industry, it's pretty easy to do basic labels. The self-laminating wire labels are pretty neat, as the unit only handles up to 3/4 in; tape, the labels fold around the paper backing so the clear portion is on the back allowing 1.5 in; tall total size, with about 

 The sizes handle most uses though. You can only have ONE size text on a label, so you can't have a large identifier with smaller print detail under for example. On the largest 3/4" tape, you can only have 4 lines of text, and as it can't print close to the top and bottom edge, it uses a smaller font than I would like. Solid unit, interface has issues

 Had to fix the old one because this new one I bought is not good. The display has terrible viewing angles compared to the old one. The keypad is soft and each key feels like it has a different mushy feel so you don't get any physical tactile feedback when you press a button - nothing like the old one. And to top it off, they changed the text font and it doesn't look as nice with more spacing between letters and the letters are smaller and more boxy

Quality went downhill

 Paired with the M21 self-laminating labels (I chose the 1" laminating tail, but will purchase the 1.5" in the future as a longer tail is necessary for Cat7 and 14-gauge speaker cables.

 What a waste of money that was, as it was too expensive and cumbersome to deal with (lining up the software for the printer was a nightmare!). Then, I bought a P-Touch and their version of self laminating labels. They had almost no tail thus they really did "self laminate." They worked, but all of the labels were not completely adhered to the cables

 It looked sloppy. Then, I found the Brady system. It was way affordable and much, much easier to use and gave professional looking results. There are other (way) more expensive products that have similar self-laminating label makers, but the Brady printer at ~$93 is the best option

 The nice thing is the ability to use an app to design labels from your phone. But of course the minimal length setting in the app is an issue. So where does this decision take place? Is it in just an office meeting as simple as “Hey Harry, can you have it so on this label maker have the label spacing and something in the software to waste, I mean not have the customer have the ability to use an average of 63.4% of the label material

Every manufacture purposely designs their product to waste label material, toner and ink.

 6 AAA. There is easily room in the compartment for them to have gone with easier to find and longer lasting AA batteries, or even a rechargeable lithium battery. Ideally it would have been rechargeable and the included AC adapter would have kept it topped off so you could pick it up and go. A belt loop would also have been welcome so you could carry this and still manipulate your phone

 The software is mediocre at best. Even on a iphone 12 its a little laggy and setting up labels takes some work. It is possible to queue labels by saving them and then later selecting them and printing them all at once, but its not intuitive, and if you don't want to retain them more than the one print, its a bit of a hassle. I'd give the software a B-  In short its best to consider this a desktop printer, and if you like to move around and label on the go you should probably stick to one of the more traditional models

Hassle to use, not portable

This cube label maker doesn’t have the best print quality. It prints at 180 dpi, while others print at 180x360 dpi or 360 dpi. The smaller your font, the worse it gets. I used it to print some nursery tags
