I bought the Boss Katana Mini more recently, not to compare with the Blackstar, necessarily, but for something a bit different. The Boss Katana Mini is billed as 7 watts, and I think much of that is in the 'brown' channel, which is noticeably louder than the other two channels, the clean channel and the crunch channel. Bottom line, I really like the clean channel here, but I'm underwhelmed by the crunch and 'brown' channels, which sound ordinary to my ears. They sound flat, the bass is a bit dull, and the gain doesn't have much of an edge to it

You will want a quality power supply or a lot of batteries for this unit as the cheap lightweight psu's will introduce hiss on the high gain settings. The boss brand psu should be ok. My "onespot" psu was not clean enough and it made hiss. Oddly enough, the psu that came with my nux mighty light is very quiet on the Katana

I haven't recorded with it yet, but you get what you give recording a guitar amp, and I haven't gigged it yet, but based on years (decades) of experience, I'm not going to get the volume much past 4 even with a thunder-god drummer. One con, no foot switch. I ordered one separately, but I love the amp, made in China or not, it's a keeper.

The volume is perfect for the amp's purpose. Half way up on the brown channel and my wife and daughter had to talk loudly to each other to be heard. I seriously doubt that you will find a better tone for the price. I would love hear this amp on a recording verses some high dollar stuff

With both speakers connected the Fly is significantly louder. What’s most important to me however is that the Fly is a much more musical sounding amp. I also like the fact that with the Fly I can choose between the super compact single amp or both speakers when traveling. With the Boss you’re stuck with the one size which is about the same as the 2 speaker combo of the Fly

Now days I'm playing in a 7 piece band with a horn section and at rehearsals I use a 30 then when doing shows, depending on the size, I go from one 50 to sometimes 2. I recently bought a 20 MH and use that when rehearsing with just the rhythm section. I found the 20mh to have a much brighter over all tone. These little 20mh's are tone monsters with a vintage 30! I'll be buying more of these bad boys! I've switched out the Blue Marvel speakers in some with either the Vintage 30`s or the Cream back H75`s
