The Blizzard Zero G 105 is the best heavy-ish all-around backcountry ski we have used in recent years. It does everything very well, especially considering its weight. At 1500 grams, there are many lighter options on the market, but the ones we've tested ski more poorly than the Blizzard. Going the other direction, one must tack on a couple hundred grams of mass before matching or exceeding the ski performance of this award winner. 
Weight to performance ratio is the real and definitive measure of an all-around ski for human-powered use. In that matrix, this Blizzard shares the top of the heap. For a long time, we have picked two highest award winners; one super light and the other "normal" light. The Zero G 105 is the "normal light" award winner. The primary compromise in its performance is in firm snow. It doesn't grip quite as smoothly or confidently as we would like in an all-around ski. It does well enough, but this is the drawback we have to comment on.

 Super handy, nice little design for the skin so I highly recommend those. With the Zero Gs they do have of course a nice early rise in the tips. We've got some generous camber, moderate camber underfoot and in the tail we've got a slight up rise as well. So these are the Zero G 105s, I'm 180 pounds, I ski on the 188, 6 foot tall, 6 foot 1

 I've been skiing the 105s for two seasons now. I got a pre-production model and tested them for a year and then wrote the review and I've been skiing on them all this year as well. So the new thing with the Zero G skis is the carbon drive 2.0 construction

 So great and variable snow conditions. The Zero Gs also use a rounded 3D top edge design. So you can see that on the top edge here and that reportedly reduces the ski weight by about 15%. There is also a skin notch in the tip and also in the tail of the ski as you can see and you can buy pre-cut mocha skins

 We've got some generous camber, moderate camber underfoot and in the tail we've got a slight up rise as well. So these are the Zero G 105s, I'm 180 pounds, I ski on the 188, 6 foot tall, 6 foot 1. The 180 was a little small so I do find the 188 to be an ideal size for me. They do come in a 164, 172, 180 and 188 centimeter lengths

 But long effective edge, very positive camber and that burly build is going to give this thing all the power you need to really hustle down the groomed terrain. Just that 85 underfoot width is really the only thing that's giving you any of that off trail adventure. Better suited for on trail carving and skiing for sure. Still that supreme quality of build and materials used from Kessily and just a ton of fun for those on trail carvings

 Just a little bit short for me. This thing generates an 18 meter turn radius so again falling in line with that on trail personality, feel free to open this thing up making some pretty good long GS turns here. And then the other thing that leads it to being a pure frontside ski is this positive camber underfoot and lack of any notable tip and tail rocker. So it's going to hook up as soon as you put a bit of energy into your boot

 Welcome to our 2021 ski test. Today we got a Kessley DX 85. This thing is unchanged from last year and is just kind of that frontside slash all-mountain performer. The build is a lot more frontside oriented while the 85 underfoot width does give you a little bit more versatility

 So it does mean that you're going to be able to get up on that edge a little bit quicker with that stiffer flex overall. So it does help you get up on edge. There's not a whole lot of taper and rocker going on in this ski. Really allows for that smooth tip to tail edge contact and easy skiing

 It has the width to do that, but in more of a frontside shape. So we are built with a blend of poplar and beech wood stringers. So when they sandwich those vertical stringers together, one of the things that gives Kessley kind of a leg up is that they're using thinner stringers of wood. So when they sandwich them all together, it gives you a really cohesive unit, much more precise and agile than a larger stringer, a wider stringer
