The Blizzard Zero G 105 is the best heavy-ish all-around backcountry ski we have used in recent years. It does everything very well, especially considering its weight. At 1500 grams, there are many lighter options on the market, but the ones we've tested ski more poorly than the Blizzard. Going the other direction, one must tack on a couple hundred grams of mass before matching or exceeding the ski performance of this award winner. 
Weight to performance ratio is the real and definitive measure of an all-around ski for human-powered use. In that matrix, this Blizzard shares the top of the heap. For a long time, we have picked two highest award winners; one super light and the other "normal" light. The Zero G 105 is the "normal light" award winner. The primary compromise in its performance is in firm snow. It doesn't grip quite as smoothly or confidently as we would like in an all-around ski. It does well enough, but this is the drawback we have to comment on.

 Super handy, nice little design for the skin so I highly recommend those. With the Zero Gs they do have of course a nice early rise in the tips. We've got some generous camber, moderate camber underfoot and in the tail we've got a slight up rise as well. So these are the Zero G 105s, I'm 180 pounds, I ski on the 188, 6 foot tall, 6 foot 1

 I've been skiing the 105s for two seasons now. I got a pre-production model and tested them for a year and then wrote the review and I've been skiing on them all this year as well. So the new thing with the Zero G skis is the carbon drive 2.0 construction

 So great and variable snow conditions. The Zero Gs also use a rounded 3D top edge design. So you can see that on the top edge here and that reportedly reduces the ski weight by about 15%. There is also a skin notch in the tip and also in the tail of the ski as you can see and you can buy pre-cut mocha skins

 We've got some generous camber, moderate camber underfoot and in the tail we've got a slight up rise as well. So these are the Zero G 105s, I'm 180 pounds, I ski on the 188, 6 foot tall, 6 foot 1. The 180 was a little small so I do find the 188 to be an ideal size for me. They do come in a 164, 172, 180 and 188 centimeter lengths

 That's going to lead to better smoothness and fresh and soft snow, good flotation. The fact that it's with that cap portion also increases the ski's ability to kind of stay up and hover out of the snow. In the tail, we see similar theory where the cap starts right about here and the rocker is just a few centimeters north of that towards the tail. Low splay definitely has that longer effective edge for smoother skiing and better control from tip to tail

 Welcome to our 2023 ski test. We've got a Faction Dancer 3 for you today. Pretty wide and beefy directional all-mountain ski. Has a lightweight poplar wood core and two sheets of metal in it

 Pretty interesting what they do in terms of the profile and how that marries with the construction. So this is basically a fully sidewall ski, full sandwich construction, except for after the rocker. So we got full sidewall underfoot and then when we decamber it, the rocker pretty much starts where the sidewall ends and the full cap begins. So the capped portion of the ski is also the rockered portion, which both of those lean to that free ride aspect of the spectrum versus having full sidewall all throughout, less rocker, which would be more directional

 This is the 178 here and we have a 19 meter turn radius. So a little bit longer than we see in the narrower version of this ski, but still not like a long 22 plus meter turn radius. We're still in the teens here in this 178. So it does like to get up on edge and make those clean carve turns for sure

 You can get them onto an edge, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that with these dimensions and construction, they need work to perform smooth carve turns.

Faction Dancer 3X W 2022-2023

 I reviewed the Faction Dancer 3X and they are 172 centimeters. I like that the Faction Dancer could charge through almost any condition, but it still remained really nimble and agile through the trees and the bumps, and I really enjoyed the amount of compliments I got in the lift line on the top sheet. The Dancer excelled in steeper and more challenging lines for sure, but where I really noticed them to shine was through variable conditions where they could handle any change in the snowpack with ease and grace. Definitely geared towards an advanced to expert skier

 If the Dancers were a vehicle, I'd probably call them a Jeep because they're very all terrain, you can take them anywhere and they will plow right through it.
