The Blizzard Zero G 105 is the best heavy-ish all-around backcountry ski we have used in recent years. It does everything very well, especially considering its weight. At 1500 grams, there are many lighter options on the market, but the ones we've tested ski more poorly than the Blizzard. Going the other direction, one must tack on a couple hundred grams of mass before matching or exceeding the ski performance of this award winner. 
Weight to performance ratio is the real and definitive measure of an all-around ski for human-powered use. In that matrix, this Blizzard shares the top of the heap. For a long time, we have picked two highest award winners; one super light and the other "normal" light. The Zero G 105 is the "normal light" award winner. The primary compromise in its performance is in firm snow. It doesn't grip quite as smoothly or confidently as we would like in an all-around ski. It does well enough, but this is the drawback we have to comment on.

 Super handy, nice little design for the skin so I highly recommend those. With the Zero Gs they do have of course a nice early rise in the tips. We've got some generous camber, moderate camber underfoot and in the tail we've got a slight up rise as well. So these are the Zero G 105s, I'm 180 pounds, I ski on the 188, 6 foot tall, 6 foot 1

 I've been skiing the 105s for two seasons now. I got a pre-production model and tested them for a year and then wrote the review and I've been skiing on them all this year as well. So the new thing with the Zero G skis is the carbon drive 2.0 construction

 So great and variable snow conditions. The Zero Gs also use a rounded 3D top edge design. So you can see that on the top edge here and that reportedly reduces the ski weight by about 15%. There is also a skin notch in the tip and also in the tail of the ski as you can see and you can buy pre-cut mocha skins

 We've got some generous camber, moderate camber underfoot and in the tail we've got a slight up rise as well. So these are the Zero G 105s, I'm 180 pounds, I ski on the 188, 6 foot tall, 6 foot 1. The 180 was a little small so I do find the 188 to be an ideal size for me. They do come in a 164, 172, 180 and 188 centimeter lengths

 In front of me I have Dynastar's M Pro 90 Womens. It's their womens version of their M Pro ski and they use a hybrid construction in this ski with a light wood core polyurethane and they also use a titanal frame which they call their rocket titanal frame which makes sense because you can almost see it in here it's shaped like a rocket it's thinner through the tips and it's thicker through the tails and it's fully under the binding in order to create stability and smoothness. When we talk about the shape of the ski this is a very interesting one it is in their all-ride category so it kind of fits in that but it does have relatively flat tails for this category and this width 90 under the waist but look at that tip very early tip rise rocker it's definitely going to help get you into every turn it's going to make that turn a little easier but this ski is definitely not one of the lighter ones it's a heavy aggressive hard charging ski but it does fit a wider variety of women because of that tip shape it's going to allow that you to get into the turn much easier so it's a little more forgiving than a true race ski or you know on piste all-mountain ski. When we talk about that titanal frame which is really one of the cool things about this ski it's a little different than some other companies where they are less in the tips and a little bit more in the tails and the reason for that is that they want you to be able to complete your turn from edge to edge so you're going to be able to easily get into the turn with that nice flexible tip of the ski you're going to hold the edge under the foot and then you're also going to be able to use the power through the end of your ski in order to complete that turn it's really going to make for some impressive arcing turns out there

 But as I said you could take this I mean it's it's 90 underway so you could take it just about anywhere it's a little heavy for a powder ski and really the backcountry but you could pop into the woods and have some fun with this tip shape the tails are not going to be as forgiving as something that you might want to swish your tails around with but it's definitely going to be fun wherever you take it.  I think an athletic intermediate would do just fine on them as long as you're kind of aware of the strength of the tail back here. And I also think the 90 is a little bit easier to ski than the 99. Just quicker edge to edge, a little bit lighter, less mass, that kind of stuff. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a particularly forgiving ski, but if you've heard people say that the 99 can be pretty demanding, it's not as true with this 90

 There's a few manufacturers that do that. Maybe you can pick up on who I'm referring to. It is pretty much the opposite in these skis. So what that does to performance is this tip shape is not designed to pull you into a turn like some skis will

 So this tip might not be the strongest carving tip or forebody of a ski in the world, but that's okay because it allows for more versatility and allows you to kind of dictate how you're skiing. Contrastly, in the tail here, the tail is quite strong. Pretty stiff and pretty strong back here. So once you're in a carving turn, you get a ton of power through kind of the mid-foot section of the ski and through the tail here

 But you do need to be a reasonably good skier because there is some unweighting of the tail required, particularly if you're trying to make a lot of short turns through technical terrain. It's not just going to slide and slip and smear from side to side. It does require you to kind of unweight the tail back here and pick it up like a traditional skiing technique. Which again, that's kind of where it being a skier's ski comes into play
