 At 97 underfoot, this is a 183 here, and this thing generates an 18.5 meter turn radius. Really brings you into the turn nicely, holds tight till the end. There's even that extra sheet of metal right underfoot to generate some more torsional stiffness

 This thing just goes right through, doesn't feel a thing, stays on its intended line. Any of the really deep snow, it might get a little bit more submerged versus some other 97, 98 millimeter skis that have less weight to it, but this skier is really looking for that ultimate in power and strength. As a result, we're getting that expert skier who knows how to drive a ski is going to do really well on this. If you're a little bit more timid, more of an intermediate skier, there's definitely better options out there for you

This has more of a speed minimum than a maximum, so you do have to get it up to speed in order for it to really get energetic. Other than that, it can feel a little bit on the planky side once it hits that speed threshold

I have blizzard bonafide and I think that’d be good in the East for fresh snow days as a “second ski”

I live on the ice coast, I mean east coast, and currently ski on 84 width. Love the skis for carving and ice but looking to add to my collection for days where we get powder or trails are full of crud. Went to local ski shops and asked for recommendations. Was clear I wanted to keep the 84s, and this would be an additional set for the quiver. The recommendations I got ranged from 88-102. I think the 102s might be a tad overboard given we don’t get tons of fresh powder and I’m not off skiing in the trees. But the 88s seem not that far off from what I currently have and I question if they’d feel much different. I’m wondering if the sweet spot would be 90-96 range? Would love some advice from those far more knowledgeable than I am. Thanks in advance.

Talk to me about ski width

5-millimeter shovel, 97 underfoot, 118.5 in the tail. So not a huge side cut. That's going to yield that big turn radius that I like

 And just some big long arcs. So love these. Let's finish it off with a little terrain park maybe question mark. Alright here you go

 That's right. All right, so the Blizzard Bonafide 97 remains unchanged for 2022. It is an all-mountain ski, but kind of one of the burliest all-mountain skis you're going to get. You know, if this was a mountain bike, it'd be an enduro race bike as opposed to a freeride or an all-mountain bike

 So that's good. Another thing about the construction of the Blizzard Bonafide, which goes with a lot of their other models too, is what they call the carbon flip core construction. Basically what it means is that instead of carving out the wood core and then bending it into a rocker camber, rocker shape, it's kind of carved into that shape. I mean, they basically carve it upside down and then flip it

 So I had more fun taking this ski into like moguls and trees and terrain like that than on the previous version. While I didn't hate doing it on the previous version by any means, that ski is great too. It's a little easier on this new Bonafide. So really cool, it's been fascinating watching the evolution of the Bonafide and Blizzard's all mountain skis in general

 Check it out and we'll see you out there just ripping turns on all mountain terrain regardless of the snow conditions for sure.

 So if you're more of a less aggressive skier, maybe you're on the smaller side, you don't need a big stiff planky ski. You can go with a shorter length that's going to have softer flexing tips and tails, be a little bit more forgiving, but still rip. And then big heavy skiers like Bob I know was between the 183 and the 189, and ultimately at his size he really liked that 189. So pretty darn cool that you can kind of custom choose what works best for you

 Now another thing that they achieved by doing so is they actually allowed the tips and tails to be a little bit softer flexing in pretty much all lengths. There's going to be some differences like I talked about, but in pretty much every length the tips and tails are softer. And there's also less rocker in them. So softer flex, less rocker, there's a little bit more early taper too, or kind of more of a smoothed out tip, less extended side cut

Comparing it to like a ski that has less metal or no metal, like a full woodcore ski, this is definitely going to be way more responsive. 97 millimeters underfoot is a great all-mountain ski width. You know, it's just wide enough to help you off trail and still quick edge to edge on the groomers

 The edge hold on these bad boys was great. Like I said, we were here when it was still a little bit hard pack. So those early morning laps, the ski is going to be there for you. You'll be confident in laying down arcs

Boasting three different turn radii within the side of the ski, the M6 can achieve a different turn outcome depending on skier input. This new technology admittedly took some getting used to. However, we found the tech especially helpful when merging onto a new run with more traffic or exiting a mogul field back onto the groomer. The M6 Mantra is on the damp side of the spectrum for skis. But we can’t complain when the overall result is the superior combination of stability and maneuverability that this ski offers through icy groomers, afternoon chop and slop, and deep pow days.

On the heels of the extremely successful and well-loved M5, Volkl hasn’t rocked the boat too much with the new M6 Mantra. It remains an extremely powerful and precise all-mountain option that’s perfectly happy in the hands of hard chargers at speed. Volkl did make some tweaks to the Titanal Frame construction: shorter skis now have less metal and are a little softer, while longer options are stronger with more metal. You also get the brand’s 3D Radius (also found in the Kendo below), which effectively gives the ski three different turn radii. In practice, it’s pretty impressive, and the M6 feels comfortable at everything from tight and quick turns to wide GS sweepers.

It’s a close call between the M6 and Nordica Enforcer above, and both are versatile, standout models. In parsing out the differences, the Mantra is noticeably wider at the tip (by 8mm), and its stiffer build gives it the advantage in terms of stability. But the Nordica is more comfortable in tight spaces with its nimble, easier-to-manage flex (this also makes it a better option for intermediate-level skiers). Both are excellent one-quiver options for riders that spend the majority of their time on groomers or in regions with moderate snowfall.
