Challenging to use for fire starting.

The spine of the blade is smooth and not suitable for throwing sparks from a ferro rod. With considerable effort I was occasionally able to get one or two sparks. Conversely I did manage to get several sparks by using the edge of the knife--and had to spend a lot of time removing deep burrs from the edge afterward. For comparison I use my (Esse CR2

The only negative is that the sheath is a hard plastic. It does the job, but does not match the quality of the knife. However, for this price the knife alone is a great value.
