AROMA NRC-687SD-1SG vs Hamilton Beach Rice and Hot Cereal Cooker

I bought it because it's stainless steel, and I do appreciate not having a non-stick coating.

'Caveat - We make primarily white (Jasmine) rice, and have only used the steamer bin a few times. As of this review, it's 9 only 9 months old. That said, it's been flawless I'll bump to 5 stars if it holds up for at least a year. Know that this is my THIRD steamer in a year

MUSH? I don't think so. Had to change dinner plans drastically when I had been so patient waiting for the rice to cook. I've had much better luck with whole grain farro (emmer wheat), which seems impossible to overcook, with steamed veggies and fish or chicken. I'll have to try again with brown rice -- cut way back on the water and the time, which means setting a timer because this thing doesn't allow you to time

Programme1 white rice-it has fixed 45min,which I am using frequently. Programme2 Quick rice-35 min, for an quick cooking. Programme3 whole grain-60 min,for different types of grains . Programme4 heat/simmer-5min,for reheat just slow heating purpose

Upgraded my 10 y.o. rice cooker with non-stick coating with a shiny new stainless steel unit. After a couple sub par attempts to making typical white rice that is a staple of Hawaii and Asian cultures, the perfect rice/water ratio has been found

Maybe my review will be a little biased since we bought this after our super-cheap rice maker died and this one has several more features that I love about it. I love that it doesn't spew steam and nasty rice-water all over my counter like my old one did. I love that it has a countdown timer, a delay timer, and a keep warm feature. I love that the brown rice I cook seems to be fully cooked now as opposed to still crunchy in my old rice cooker

Aroma needs to change the cheap stainless steel to a higher quality. And people should consider demanding higher quality so that we can get out of this wasteful throw-away society that people with too much power for their own britches have created for us to endure. In the past, good kitchen appliances lasted generations, today you can hardly find a good appliance. Take your power back folks, and don't give it away to an expert to decide for you

I do prefer Aluminum just to avoid any issues down the line. The product itself is very simple to use, 1-touch button and just leave it. It did have a weird strong plastic smell the first few times of using it, maybe from factory materials. After a while, it wears off

2 the bottom of the bowl developed rings. To combat this I poured a bit of vinegar, soaked it and rinsed it. That seemed to clear up the rings, till the next time. So do it for maintenance

There are way too many nooks and crannies that the Hamilton has that collects sticky rice water. I am comparing this to the cheap $20 rice cooker we had earlier that was just so easy to clean after cooking rice. Yes, I had to deal with the sticky rice water with both cookers, but the Hamilton product design is way too difficult to clean and maintain. If you absolutely want the extra features from the Hamilton and don't mind the high maintenance, then go for it

This was my third rice cooker I tried and it was the one that won! It has (almost) everything I wanted. I wanted a non Teflon rice cooker that could also steam veggies (pot style) that was big enough for my family of 4 but not too big to clutter my counter space. The choices are limited for non Teflon cookers. I wanted a ceramic coated one but all the choices were not the right size for my family

If you have a larger family you will need to get a bigger size cooker. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The price is great - especially for the functions it provides and (BONUS!) the stainless steel cook pot. That, in itself, is worth the price! If you buy it, I think you'll be very happy with it. Happy cooking!

If you do choose to purchase this device, I would suggest you do a test run with only water to verify the temperature points of your cooker before cooking any animal proteins in it. I feel like I overpaid for this device. I was able to use it approximately 40 times resulting in a per use cost of about one dollar. Feels too high for me
