ARLO Q HD Video Security Camera: 2021 Update

 In theory it arms the motion-detection when you leave your home area (configurable via menu), and disarms it when you return (based on your phone's GPS). But this was also pretty buggy for me. I would be sitting at home, not 5 feet from the camera, and I would get a notification that it had armed because I left my home. Then of course I would start getting motion detection alerts because I was at home

 But it would still arm while I was at home sometimes due to WiFi issues. Luckily with IFTT I was able to set up a couple widgets on my phone's home screen to arm/disarm, so I don't actually have to open the Arlo app every time I enter or leave my house. This is a step in the right direction, but it doesn't always work perfectly either. This is not the kind of product where you just "hope" it works, you need to know, every time, that it works and that when you leave you home, it is armed and ready to go

 Note that I couldn't get it to log in to my hidden WiFi network (I don't broadcast my SSID), so I did have to pair it with a guest network that is not hidden. The tech support person couldn't tell me if Arlo works with hidden networks, they didn't seem to understand what a hidden WiFi network was (really, Netgear? Isn't your whole business essentially built around networks and WiFi?).  If Netgear could make some reliability improvements to this thing, especially the app, I think it could be quite an amazing product. I know Netgear reads some of these

 However I found the camera even at the highest sensitivity of motion detection would only pick up a human sized target walking at normal speed at 12-15 feet. If I walked slower or crept along the range was even further drastically reduced. This could be a major problem for home invasion if the thief is moving slow through your house. Or worse yet isnt even picked up on camera!  I also found that at night the night vision LED's give of a faint red glow

 This could potentially draw attention to the camera which could lead to its destruction.  Overall this is a very nice camera for a bedroom, shed, or small areas. I would not trust it in large rooms if you want to make sure all motion is detected even across large areas. App works very well and is hard to find with most wifi cameras on the market

  The GOOD: Microphone on this camera, like other arlo cameras, works extremely well. I rely on sound triggering more so than motion since my garage echos sound so well, with sensitivity set to 2 it will trigger on any audible noise in the garage but will not be triggered by the neighborhood dogs barking. Internet connection also seems good, shows full signal about 50 feet from my router through three walls. IR led range is good

 I've tied my camera into SmartThings and appreciate the ability to use it to manage the camera (be sure to turn notifications off in the app if you do this), but I would love it if Netgear/Arlo would work with ActionTiles to let it stream a live feed.  After almost a year and just getting a second camera, here is my update:  Nightvision uses an IR blasted light. The issue with my original review was that the camera was too close to a wall and I was getting a lot of reflection. Make sure that the camera is not pointed near a wall within approximately 3 feet and you won't get IR wash

Nest Cam (Battery) review: The Googliest

I had to install BlueStacks 5 on my PC and run the Google Home app emulated in Android to get video for monitoring, but the quality of this setup is lacking due to the Home App not allowing resizing or rearranging cameras on the display, so half ofy cameras are off screen.

Google killed my ecosystem - I can only find Nest Cam (battery) [new] now and I am severely disappointed with the drop of features...

  Orginal review: 11/14/17 1 star - I bought 4 outdoor Nest cameras. I have 200Mb Up/Down internet. I have the Ubiquiti network gears and APs.  This review is after 9+ months of usage

 Then I tried to access the recording, I waited for another 30 – 60 seconds. Imagine at 2 AM, you receive an alert in a zone that suppose to be cleared. You click on the Nest app on your phone and you see the blue ring for couple minutes. I can tell you though couple minutes seem like a very long time
