It takes an effort to get the jacket into the small bag supplied and I do not want to be standing at a cold transition point up high this winter fiddling with a dinky stuff sack.  Five star rating because the jacket looks exactly like what I wanted and expected - even though I have not worn it in the field yet

I have not worn this jacket out in the cold yet, but I thought I would go ahead and leave a review about fit.  I am 6ft, 175lbs, I usually wear size 40" to 42" chest and 34" waist.  I mention the waist size because this jacket fits low and trim at the waist.  The LARGE size Nuclei AR is perfect for me

 The cuffs are finished with a stretchy fabric that creates an almost gasket-like seal over a bare wrist yet still stretches enough to fit over glove cuffs.

I don’t know what Arc’teryx does to their fabrics but the outer shell is, from my experience anyway, impossible to tear. I’ve managed to put holes into several items this winter including a couple synthetic puffies, a down parka or two, and a couple of midlayers, but the Nuclei AR has yet to even show any signs of wear. It still looks as good as the day I first put it on (so does my three-year-old Solo, by the way, and I’m not exactly the most careful person with my gear).

The two hand-warmer pockets are the best I’ve ever seen, and I do not say that lightly being the pocket-freak I am. They are high up on the waistline, roomy and out of the way of a harness or pack straps. But their best feature is the soft fleece lining along the outer (back-of-hand) side — these pockets are a warm, cozy spot to tuck in a cold, wet pair of hands. A rather tiny water-tight zipper closes each pocket, but thanks to a really nicely-designed, reinforced, laminated section around the zipper, it slides smooth and snag-free

 Additionally, although form fitting, the Nuclei AR can easily be worn over layers without feeling constrained. The purpose of a “belay parka” is to be able to be used as an outer layer that can be put on over multiple layers to conserve the heat generated from the exertion on a climb. The Nuclei AR effectively serves its purpose without any complaints.

 As with the pockets, I found the main zipper to be effective in its purpose. Once again, I would increase slightly the size of the zipper tabs for ease of use with gloves.     Lastly, the wrist cuffs are not binding and allow gloves of all sizes to easily slide through them. Though a seemingly small feature it’s important nevertheless—having to remove the warm protection of gloves to put a belay jacket on can be uncomfortable or dangerous in a freezing environment

 Personally, I found dangling the compressed jacket from my harness a bit distracting, and its compressed size is not quite small enough to have found a permanent spot on my harness while leading a pitch of ice. It does, however, fit easily into my pack where it can be extracted at belays or transitioning from skinning uphill to skiing downhill. Fit, Sizing, and Comfort As a slim, athletic, 6’2” male, I found the size large Nuclei AR jacket to be a comfortable and not inhibiting of movement. Having experience with other similarly designed jackets, I always immediately note the girth or lack thereof around the mid section

The Nuclei AR differs from the FL in a number of ways. Materials wise a heavier 100g/m2 Coreloft insulation versus the 80g/m2 on the FL, a heavier duty seam sealed outer in N20mr-x WINDSTOPPER® (this has been supplemented for 2016/17 with N20mr GORE® THERMIUM™ as well). These changes make the jacket warmer but more importantly far more weatherproof. The shell is now pretty much waterproof – you can ‘happily’ stand on a wet belay getting dripped on as your partner inches upward and the ice melts without fear of your jacket becoming a sodden lump

 In terms of fit I must confess that the Medium supplied was a bit large for my petite frame (I take a small normally in Arcteryx kit) however Dave is a medium and it has now found a home on his more ‘muscular’ form 😉

What are the downsides of the Patagonia Nano Puff Vest? The PrimaLoft Gold Eco insulation is pretty darn warm but not to the same degree as down, so this vest isn’t built for frigid conditions (it’s ideal for fall, spring, and as a layering piece). And the current model is slimmer than past versions, so you may want to consider sizing up if you’re on the border or plan on wearing the vest over bulky layers. Mount Vernon in a bit I'm actually waiting for them now and excited to shoot this video and supposedly 80 degrees by the time lunch time comes around, so it's a good pass you wear this in the morning I set up the climbing equipment in the back that's wearing this in the woods and for the rest of the day when it gets warm, this thing stops right into the chest pocket there and I'm not wearing my climbing harness but if I was I would clip this to my climbing harness. So after my students leave and I'm braking on the climbing site and it's after dark. whatever

 I could just put this back on or whatever so it has a little Clippy thing if you clip it to your harness. I'm not wearing my climbing harness now but comes out real easy. Just like that it's super lightweight. Two things: Don't even wait more than a few ounces so it's really lightweight

But what I like about this as well is that it's thin enough to layer underneath something that's bigger and it doesn't. It's not bulky at all and it's really, really warm.
