Arc'teryx Gamma MX vs Arc'teryx Gamma MX Hoody

Just an easy trek with the kids. Clear skies, slight breeze, 30F degrees at the top elevation we hit, steepish gain at points, but mostly light stuff.

Very comfortable jacket for chilly days. So far I’ve only had a chance to test this in around ~60 F weather, with slight rain, but it did exactly what you’d want. Keeps you comfortable and dry in a light rain.

13. Once again, exposure here is weird on the fit segment. It's just black, no clear idea of what's going on.

I found the Gamma MX not quite warm enough for the weather I wanted it for (late fall), and the fleece lining made it hard to layer underneath. The hood was a bit large without a helmet but the real deal breaker for me was it was too short in the torso (6'1" - Medium) and left me exposed to wind. Other Arc stuff fits great in medium for me, just not this.

Coreloft on the other hand doesnt last quite as long. The strands will degrade over time, i have a 2015 atom lt which ive used quite heavily and the coreloft is slowly getting towards the end of its lifetime so for the most part i usually expect the synthetics to last around 5-10 years. Although that being said my kappa hoody I'd hope would last on the longer side of things.

· **Gamma MX** (Dimma, M)- This was great as a windbreaker above the tree line, but way too heavy and bulky to carry up. I thought I could make it work, but this jacket is more built for short hikes and urban use.

Overall I’m very happy with the quality and weight. Great for hiking and around town. Def an athletic fit.

I am 5ft10 and 21L is what perfectly suits me. Having tried the 26L, I think that even if it fits more stuff, it just does not work for me very well when on the road. In addition to the height concern I find 26L to be more cumbersome for a smaller frame. I mean when the back is not a well-built, US marine back (I wish I had one!), then the backpack is a bit too wide for my taste

. and smaller/lighter zippers (if they last as long as those on my older model, I'm OK w/smaller/lighter/more-packable). So

First, it’s helmet-compatible and offers great all-around coverage without impeding peripheral vision. Second, the drawcords are easy to manipulate even with gloves on, and the hood can be effectively tightened over just a hat or beanie. And finally, the laminated brim holds its shape nicely and shields against precipitation dripping onto my face and eyes. Taken together, it’s a highly functional and well-built design that I’m always excited to see on Arc’teryx jackets
