Recommendation for a discounted warranty replacement waterproof shell in mild, wet Vancouver? Here's my shortlist ranked by preference thus far. Beta FL is kinda my price ceiling.

1. Beta FL (currently OOS unfortunately)
2. Zeta AR (love pit zips, hopefully enough to offset heavier face fabric)
3. Zeta LT // Fraser (for a more city appropriate aesthetic)

For context I'm coming off an '08 Alpha LT which I loved, wore near daily in every season but summer, and took full advantage of the fantastic waterproofing. Worn in S/S with a light shirt or hoodie underneath and layered with down/hoodies under during F/W. Mostly commuter duty.

About the only issue I experienced before it went nuclear was wet thighs, but that's probably any shorter cut shell.

It lasted me this long, so hoping for a jacket that'll run the same gamut or longer with more attentive care and maintenance.

Don't really mind a technical aesthetic (actually became a pretty appropriate piece when I was really into tech ninja aesthetic) or crinklyness, next to skin feel is not a big factor. Have looked at so many comparisons on the Arc website and so many reviews brain is starting to turn to mush. Send help, sorry for word vomit post 🙃

**Also BONUS QUESTION** are there any warm preferably hoodless midlayers, sub $300 that could reasonably function as an ok outerwear piece from time to time? -5c to 10c. Kind of interested in a kyanite/delta lt/fortrez to layer beneath aforementioned shell for winter, maybe not an immediate need though.

Waterproof shell for mild climate Fall-Spring usage

 I think most people would vote for the Beta AR which is absolutely fine but since you plan on year round use and for skiing my vote is for the SV just because I like a more durable face fabric. I might be the odd man out for that reason.

Beta SV would be very similar to the rush just without the powder skirt and would be in between the beta AR/Rush regarding the face fabric denier, weight, hem length. Pockets on all three are quite similar but the SV and Rush are closest to each other. I think most people would vote for the Beta AR which is absolutely fine but since you plan on year round use and for skiing my vote is for the SV just because I like a more durable face fabric. I might be the odd man out for that reason

 What I’m looking for: A shell that can be worn for skiing with my other Arc’teryx pieces (Atom AR, LR, LT Vest), and various other mid layers. Most, if not all of my skiing is in-bounds and at a resort. While I currently ski every week I’ll be moving in the next few months (to the PNW) and may only be able to ski once or twice a month, which leads me to wanting a shell that’s versatile (e.g. can be worn around town, and on the mountain whenever I can make it).

Earlier today I visited a local store and tried the Rush, which was awesome. While I haven’t ruled this jacket out, I fear it would only be wearable for a few months a year (when I’m skiing). 

I also tried the Cassiar LT, which seems like it may be a little more versatile. The powder skirt is attractive, too. Unfortunately, the reviews for this jacket are fairly limited. 

Finally, the Beta AR has caught my eye, and seems to be very well liked. I’m yet to see one of these in person, but it seems like it may be the best option for a year round, multi-purpose jacket. 

For reference:
- I’ve been borrowing a Theta AR that’s really nice. Unfortunately, it sounds like these have been discontinued and I’ll have to return this to my friend soon.
- I have an Alpha FL that I love, but it’s too short to wear skiing. Whatever I buy will need to be a little looser all around.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may be able to offer!

Best year-round, ski-friendly shell

 It was also loose/baggy around my arms and shoulders. I’m not sure who this jacket was meant to fit. Clearly not me.

Weird fit

This jacket was not the item advertised and I suspect was a knock-off. Had labels for 2 different jacket styles, was the thinnest material and didn’t fit my 5’3” wife. Returned for a full refund and ordered direct from Arc’teryx instead.

 But for $500, it’s definitely a souped-up option: The design is decidedly fashionable (as we’ve come to expect from Sweden-based Fjallraven), considerably more durable with a 60-denier polyester fabric, and heavier at 1 pound 0.6 ounces.
