My Polartec NeoShell jacket is slowly dying and I'm looking for a soft or hard shell that I would use year round (if possible). I plan on layering depending on the temperature. I don't usually sweat a lot and I commute on a Cargo E-bike.

Main usage:

* Bike commuting year round (15km/day)
* Light mountain hiking
* Walks around town

Criterias:

* Bright color
* Waterproof
* Breathable
* Durable

Weight is not really important.

I've been looking at some options so far but I'm not quite sure what to go for:

Most all-rounder waterproof jacket [ -25C to 30C ]

Arc'teryx Beta AR:. \+ Closest to "everything you need, nothing you don't". \+The lightest option.

Seeking advice about possibly purchasing an Arc'teryx jacket. I live in the northwestern United States and frequently recreate in high alpine areas (7,000-10,000+ feet). In these areas I enjoy multi-day backpacking, hiking (summer and winter), bank fishing, and ice fishing. Recently, i'm getting into solo backpacking, taking advantage of shoulder seasons, and venturing out when the weather is less than optimal (moderate chances of rain / snow). I feel I may be exceeding the limits of my Marmot Precip and Frogg Toggs jackets as they are more designed as "emergency" jackets, not intended for hours of precipitation.

1. Is Arc'teryx overkill for application? Willing to pay the premium price if this application warrants it. However, at these prices, it'd better last me 10+ years of solid use. I do not care about the fashion aspects of Arc'teryx; no judgement to those who do.
2. Considering the Beta AR (available for \~$360) and the Beta SL Hybrid (available for \~$211). The AR outer material is substantially more durable, while the SL is substantially more packable. The AR uses Goretex Pro, while the SL uses a combination of Paclite and 3-layer Goretex (Pro?). Will the AR keep me dryer (shielding from external rain and breathability mitigating internal sweat) better than the SL in a 6-hour hike during a rain storm or 8 hours of ice fishing with snow and sleet?

 So I was looking on the internet and I came across this one and looked at a couple that I've used and thought hey, this looks like the jacket for me to say I am really really happy with this jacket. It's super lightweight and it pops into itself which is a nifty feature. You just unzip the puppy here and then you just start all gonna end in itself and then zips up, get it all snug, then slips up and then you're left with and I think that's amazing and that you can then just I hug my running vest I just stick it in there and then whenever I need it I can't poo I chucked on whenever the weather gets not so nice on again, it's super lightweight which is really nice because you don't want to be having a load of bulk and because the lighter the wood obviously less energy you have to expend so that was a key. And and taking the chocolate bar cake is just as simple

At the end of the day, depending on the weather a waterproof is often there to keep you warm rather than totally dry and the ultralight ones struggle on that front.

I have an Inov-8 Stormshell and an OMM Kamleika.
