It's also, infuriatingly, saddled with an OS that still embraces a 2012-era idea of tablet computing. The result is an amazing tablet that can't quite justify its luxury-laptop-level price, because you still need a computer running a non-tablet OS if you want to open more than three windows or use a second monitor.

But would expire in January 2019. So I lucked out. But not thanks to the seller, who had a limited warranty on the machine not worth the ground you stand on. Would not buy from Joporras again

User Experience

Apple still dominates the tablet market.

I switched to the M1 MacBook Pro in 2020 and the improvements were astounding. Those improvements don't really seem to have quite the same impact on the iPad, and that's mostly because it's still a victim to iPadOS. I don't imagine that Apple has any plans on allowing its iPads to run MacOS, due to cannibalization of the MacBook market, but iPadOS has its limitations. I do not think the iPad is ready to replace your laptop quite yet, but the power is there to do so

It was such hard and sad decision I made to sell my Surface Pro 4 ...

I downloaded the updates from Microsoft website, desperately trying to improve the situation. It did a bit but never enough. So, conclusion was eminent, I got to replace it with something else.

Verdict - Mini LED, and an M1 SoC create almost the perfect tablet

However, the iPad Pro 12.9 is not always ahead of its 11-inch sibling regarding colour reproduction and dark surroundings. The use of PWM for brightness control in the 12.9-inch model will also upset some people

Looks like a tablet, but its a real computer

The screen is wonderful. As I age, i'm becoming more aware of vision decline, however, it's easy to increase the size of objects on the screen without losing any clarity. I haven't run into any memory issues thus far so I'm happy with that as well. Right now, I'm researching multiple monitor setups and will settle on one soon

Bloom! ...on an otherwise very nice device.

9”, this is not as big of an improvement as I thought it would be. Yes, this is faster but unless you’re a pro or gamer, you probably won’t notice a big difference from the chips a few years ago. The Surface Pro 4 falls short of greatness.

Aside from the screen issues I encountered, the hardware itself is amazing - the i7 is very fast and runs much cooler than its predecessor, the fan doesn't run as often, backside doesn't get as hot and it's not nearly as obnoxious as the fan in the SP3. Windows Hello logon with the built in infrared camera is wonderful. The speakers sound as good as the SP3. The magnetic pen mount on the left side is handy

Battery Life

One tiny hiccup, but all is well now.

The battery life is awesome. I can sit and edit for hours without being interrupted to charge it. I actually don’t think it’s ever told me to charge it, I just do after I am done with it. The touch screen is very responsive as well

Which one of these laptops should I buy? I just need something that can handle Microsoft office applications, and last 4 years.

Not the Microsoft Surface those things don't last beyond 2 years. They have the worst rating from Ifixit regarding battery replacements and user replaceable parts.

Bad screen, heavy, cumbersome, bad keyboard, etc.

This 12.9 iPad is huge and heavy, making it inconvenient to use, which is exactly what the iPad was designed NOT to be. The screen is "ghosting," meaning if you're using at night on a black background, white letters or images have a halo effect. Not good for night time use
