Since the normal iPad was out of stock I went with the pro when I needed to replace in a short timeframe. I will probably never use all the capabilities that makes the pro more expensive than the general iPad that is really my only reason for dropping a star due to the price. But….

I love the new size from my previous iPad. The old one was recycled to my grandson. He is a happy boy and I am appreciating the larger screen.

Upgrade needed from my previous iPad. Larger screen and all the features I love!!

 Because of the new chip, battery life is nuts on the 11in model, although for most use cases the power is overkill. But, that will just ensure the device remains usable for years to come. Perfect tablet, and I’d recommend it to everyone if the base model wasn’t so expensive.

 It's also, infuriatingly, saddled with an OS that still embraces a 2012-era idea of tablet computing. The result is an amazing tablet that can't quite justify its luxury-laptop-level price, because you still need a computer running a non-tablet OS if you want to open more than three windows or use a second monitor.

 Or you need to take elements from two emails and a bunch of Facebook messages and slot them into a spreadsheet, which you would also like to keep open as you paste it into PowerPoint. There is an iPad workflow that lets you do these things, but it involves a lot of flipping apps back and forth; it's much more awkward than on MacOS or Windows. (And don't get me started on transferring files between apps, which at least is now possible but is often more complex than it needs to be.)

The XDR display on the 12.9-inch (and only the 12.9-inch) iPad Pro is staggeringly good. Instead of a handful of backlights like on most LCDs, or self-illuminating pixels like on OLEDs, this screen has 10,000 tiny LED backlights divided into 2,500 "local dimming zones

 (The iPad Air is the runner-up.) When playing "All The Things That I've Done" by the Killers on YouTube, for instance, I heard everything from the high-hats to the organ overtones; many of those sounds are missing when I listen to the song on cheap tablets or my laptop.

Apple iPad Pro (12.9-Inch, 2021) Review

 I switched to the M1 MacBook Pro in 2020 and the improvements were astounding. Those improvements don't really seem to have quite the same impact on the iPad, and that's mostly because it's still a victim to iPadOS. I don't imagine that Apple has any plans on allowing its iPads to run MacOS, due to cannibalization of the MacBook market, but iPadOS has its limitations. I do not think the iPad is ready to replace your laptop quite yet, but the power is there to do so

 It's not terrible, but it is something to be aware of.  The battery life is essentially identical to previous generations, and Apple reflects that in its specs. What additional battery life that might have been gained with the M1 chip was probably immediately sucked away with the inclusion of the XDR display. Battery life is totally fine, it's just not better

Apple still dominates the tablet market.

 However, the iPad Pro 12.9 is not always ahead of its 11-inch sibling regarding colour reproduction and dark surroundings. The use of PWM for brightness control in the 12.9-inch model will also upset some people

Most people would be better served with the smaller 11-inch model or the iPad Air. Additionally, you should consider the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus or the Surface Pro series if you are looking for greater software flexibility. However, in terms of battery life and performance, neither Microsoft's nor Samsung's alternatives can match Apple. Typically, Android tablets like the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus do not offer as many software updates as Apple's tablets do, either

There are no points of criticism with the Apple M1, though. The tablet offers outstanding performance, along with decent battery life and temperatures, despite passive cooling in its thin chassis. Furthermore, you now get a fast USB 4 port that should futureproof the tablet.

Verdict - Mini LED, and an M1 SoC create almost the perfect tablet

9”, this is not as big of an improvement as I thought it would be.  Yes, this is faster but unless you’re a pro or gamer, you probably won’t notice a big difference from the chips a few years ago.  The battery life is awesome. I can sit and edit for hours without being interrupted to charge it. I actually don’t think it’s ever told me to charge it, I just do after I am done with it. The touch screen is very responsive as well

The M1 makes a huge difference. + the camera is amazing and the depth sensor opens worlds of possibilities for immersive, but you’ll likely rarely use it + it’s an Apple so the resell value is great. This reduces the cost of ownership because when you upgrade in a few years you can still sell for a good amount

 Like all things Apple, you’re definitely paying a premium but for someone who is serious about their art of craft - worth it.  Pros: + the processing power is a BEAST. It’s effortless and smooth. The M1 makes a huge difference

 - Apple really needs to just commit to one port type. This is lightning (USB C) which is great, but most apple products are still lightning. More of an annoyance, but make up your mind Apple! - it’s almost a PC replacement but not quite there for most people. Certain user types may be able yo replace their PC or Mac but I still see it as a secondary device

 At one point she couldnt update the application anymore.  We bought the iPad Pro 5th generation as a pre release. Like all things Apple, you’re definitely paying a premium but for someone who is serious about their art of craft - worth it.  Pros: + the processing power is a BEAST

Waited to upgrade for several years - worth it!

This 12.9 iPad is huge and heavy, making it inconvenient to use, which is exactly what the iPad was designed NOT to be. The screen is "ghosting," meaning if you're using at night on a black background, white letters or images have a halo effect. Not good for night time use

Additionally, I bought the keyboard. Again, too expensive, cumbersome, and lackluster. For a keyboard as large as the MacBook Air, the iPad12.9 is strange

Not a fan. I bought this to grade papers and write a book. What I found was an overly expensive iPad that lacks the functionality of my old iPad, 10inch-ish. My old iPad was lighter, more comfortable to hold, and easier to pack away in my backpack

 The smaller iPad is cute, but the 12.9" screen size was better for us and the 2TB capacity makes this the perfect iPad for us.
