Battery life is not good. Average battery for the iPad Air 4 is 10 hours.  Definitely doesn't last that long.

I’m delighted to say that—apart from some stability issues with copying clips from SD cards in Files and some export instability with LumaFusion (the app’s fault, not Apple’s)—this sucker destroys light to moderate video editing with H264 and even some H265 video

Apple is getting really darn close, and I like it.

  Cons: They moved the fingerprint reader to the top corner, presumably to increase the size of the display. Locating the reader on the corner impacts the software UI driving endless changes that have negative value, and add up to a sizeable reduction in quality of user experience (IMO). Apple needs to accept that they should create or buy in-screen fingerprint technology. A tragic design decision

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 lite, and the same as you, the reason I bought it is because I want to use it as an e-reader. To be honest, it is indeed quite heavy on one hand, even worse when you put a case on it. It is not terribly heavy, but it is just not comfortable after 15 minutes of reading. To overcome that problem, I usually end up reading with my hand resting on my lap

I have an old kindle that I use to read on but I want to upgrade to something about the size of the Galaxy Tab A7 but lighter. I like the 8.7" screen size a lot but thought that 366g felt a little bit too heavy.

I have considered a Kindle Oasis but the price tag is a little bit too much that I'm willing to pay (for an Amazon product at least).

Any recommendations?

I love the size of the Galaxy Tab A7 but I'm looking for something a bit lighter for reading.

 It's brighter than expected, moderately colorful. There is a bit of off-axis dimming. Again, just a product of Lcd, it's still just a budget display on a budget tablet. All in all, the thing is though, you can get a 10 inch 1080p Hd screen on the new Amazon Fire Hd tablet, for example for cheaper

 You aren't thrown into a box like you are with Fire Os on Amazon's tablets, and that I consider to be another big plus as well. Also, I found the battery life on the A7 light to be pretty solid too. You get a decently large 5100 milliamp capacity, which I know doesn't sound like a whole lot for a tablet, but you've got a lower resolution Lcd display, lower end specs, and all those elements are very efficient, which can stretch this battery life out a bit more. I've been pushing some 15 hours of screen on time at least, and that's under some pretty heavy usage

 So now with my camera rant all over with, let me sum up my thoughts on the A7 Light by saying I think this has almost all the elements to be called a solid budget tablet. It's got a great design and build quality, good enough screen, very usable specs, with the potential to get even more out of it than maybe you bargained for. I would have liked to have seen a little more in the way of the processor, or at least have four gigs of ram standard for 160 bucks. Though I think this is a nice secondary sort of device for the basic stuff, and maybe a little more than that

7 inch display because I think this is the first important element to this tablet. The screen on the A7 Lite is sort of a strange resolution 1340 by 800 pixels per inch and a 5x3 aspect ratio. It's also a Tft panel, sort of Samsung's version of Lcd, and I think with a Budget tablet coming in at this low of a price point, that's about all you can expect with the display. It's good enough for casual viewing, but you can pick out those pixels

If anything, I found the camera to be most useful if I needed to use it for an emergency backup for web calling you know, over Zoom or Skype. But other than that, I wouldn't use it at all

 Unfortunately, Uh, the A7 Light is no exception. You can't expect great photo and video quality from this tablet. Pictures taken with the selfie camera are blurry, noisy, and lack contrast. The main camera delivers a better picture quality

I  had the Pixel Slate but found it too heavy and big.  I think any tablet in the 8 to 10 inch range is the sweet spot.   Lenovo and Samsung both have options in this size.

A Galaxy Tab A7 or a "modded" Kindle Fire HD 10 (2019) should work for your needs and cost under $200. They both work fine for comic reading and general tasks.
