I am a fan of bass myself, and in combination with the elaborate complexity of percussive dimensions, the articulate and winding avenues of masterful bass rhythms are second to none. Still, the bass prominence is an obvious design choice for the XB43, and fortunately is executed well. Just know that should nearby (likely apartment situated) neighbors be a concern of yours, you'll not reap the full glory of this speaker without disturbing them.

I actually have two of these subs paired with two HS80M studio monitors. One sub alone outputs decent bass, but I feel the sub is not on par in terms of quality with the HS80M studio monitors. Obviously the sub outputs more bass than the monitors, I am just talking about in terms of bang for the buck, I feel that the monitors are a league above the HS8 sub. I feel like Yamaha means for this sub to be paired with the HS80M/HS8 monitors, or they wouldn't share the moniker

Just be aware of this depending on your uses, if you plan on having it more stationary make sure it will fit.

Two things to note, the HS8s are pretty good size, if you are planning to use them like room speakers then ok, but if you are doing near field work (ie they are on your desk and you are a few feet away) then you will be better with smaller speakers (you could just get the smaller HS5 for example). Secondly the Yamaha's really are designed for professional use and don't have the same degree or ease of connectivity as many other powered monitors.
