This unit may feel small if your child likes to watch many videos, but it's undoubtedly a good size for younger children who find the Fire 10 too big or cumbersome to handle. It is a little challenging to read some children's books on the smaller screen, and we often found ourselves zooming in and out a bit to see the text properly without squinting. The color choices for the cases are limited to blue, pink, and purple - just like the Fire 8. A more gender-neutral array would be refreshing. We also found that this model was not quite as speedy as the other Amazon tablets. Overall, there is not much else we don't like about the Fire 7, and we'd choose this model over any of the other 7 inch models. For those seeking a bargain, this is a great choice.

Verdict - Many improvements in Fire HD 8 Kids Edition

 I won't be renewing that but that's because money is tight. for the price it's an ok tablet but when using it I've noticed a significant amount of lag on processes that usually wouldn't use a whole lot of system resources such as scrolling through the settings page. I picked it up at $60 so I'm not complaining.

 The other con is the battery life. It’s supposed to get 12 hours with reasonable use, but I find it gets closer to 6-8. Not a big deal as we always have a charger with us, but something to consider if your child will be primarily using this to watch movies on long trips. Otherwise, this tablet is excellent

 Instead, you have to add individual videos of those shows (if they are available) from YouTube by going through the settings. I had to watch a YouTube video tutorial to figure out how to do it. The other con is the battery life. It’s supposed to get 12 hours with reasonable use, but I find it gets closer to 6-8

It’s Great But Not Without Cons

 I get that it's proprietary, but man, I miss the variety that google play offers over amazon. Oh, and I cannot for the life of me get disney+ to work when the tablet is offline, even though we have things downloaded for watching offline!

How did people road trip with kids before tablets?

Little man loves his. It’s great and sturdy! Make sure to get a screen protector as this did not come with one. Well worth the money.
