I have $250 max to spend on some decent speakers. I listen to pretty much any genre, from classic to pop, metal, acapella, trap, EDM etc. Is Edifier R2000DB a good speaker for this price point?. Should I split it between a sound card and some lesser speakers?. If so, please give me some combo suggestions.

. If you can spend $250CAD, I recommend the Elac Debut B5 (not the B5.2, those are expensive) paired with an Aiyima A04 amp.

For less than $200 US at BestBuy and Amazon, you can get the Sony SS-CS5 Bookshelf speakers and the Sony SA-CS9 10" subwoofer.  Look at the YouTube reviews, an amazing deal (audiophile quality).  I just picked these up for myself this week.  I am so impressed with the sound quality.

As said, I don't really know anything about speakers. I've been wanting to get a pair (just 2 decent sized ones) for awhile but I haven't gotten around to it and money is a constraint as of right now as well.

I'm looking to spend around $150-$250 CAD for a pair if that's realistic at all, or just for a single speaker. Down the line I could also go up to $300 Canadian or so (for a pair or single). Preferably I'd like a pair, but if I get a single and quite like it then I'll get another regardless. I'm thinking that much for a semi decent pair might be silly. I'm fine to get an amplifier too. I don't have much of a preference but I feel like passive speakers might be better for me. I really don't know though (any advice on that is appreciated too). I live in Canada, so Amazon CA is available to me, and if the manufacturer has an online site that ships here then that as well. I don't have an audiophile store near me. 

As far as sound preferences go, like I said I don't know anything about speakers but I am quite fond of headphones. I'm definitely more towards a warmer sound signature. If there's a decent pair in mind like that, I'd probably quite like it. I still like detail in the sound but I get more enjoyment out of a smooth, warm sound. I don't want it to completely mud over all the sound though. If there are more bright and detail oriented pairs, I'm interested in that too still, I do enjoy my Beyerdynamic over ears a pile. I'm fine with using an equalizer for basic adjustment. The speakers will be in a bedroom or living room. Just a regular sized room in either case, nothing big or crammed. These will be used for everything from music to movies to games. I would really like to up my movie game though, because currently I'm using the speakers built into my 2012 Sony Bravia and I know I'm missing out big time. 

Thanks for any help. Also, what're the decent brands (ie the Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic of speakers), and what're some ones to possibly stray away from?

I started with a cheaper fossi class d amp as I blew all my money on the speakers and dac. It sound great but the bass was very thin, I saved up a bit more and bought the smsl da 9, the bass definitely feels punchier and the overall sound is clearer. I’m thinking about changing again for the blue sound power node when I’ve saved up enough.

I just bought some Kef Q350s and am really liking them. I haven't upgraded my stereo in a long time. Have them running off my old pioneer A109 amp. It all sounds good but I was considering getting an audiolab 6000a which is the right price point/connections/features that I am after. I'm 300 miles away from my nearest hifi retailer so can't audition a new amp. My question is do you think there will be a noticeable change in the quality of sound if I get this amp from what I'm currently using?

Will an amp upgrade make noticeable difference

this amplifier sounds very good, the only flaw I found in its operation is that when I turn it off and turn it on again the screen is frozen with the smsl logo and to return to normal operation I must disconnect it from the power and reconnect it, I hope it is something that is fixed by an update.

It has remote volume control, perfect volume matching, and there is no difference between the SE and balanced outputs so you can use whichever connector you like/have. The volume matching is the key thing since it means the whole volume range on the amp is usable without imbalances unlike the others where it is a dice roll on how much range you get.

 That is as long as this is the type of thing you want/need for your setup. Not for surround/theater type deal but if you listen to albums and want to hear lush detailed playback, this does that. Your other components will certainly make a difference but a really good place to start IMO. So again I love it

 Almost want to get another just because I would really miss it at this point should it fail.  Just a great little amp that most anyone wanting superior sound at the $250 price point will really enjoy. Plenty power for me to push anything I’ve hooked up to it in my collection of middle of the road speaker pairs. Sub out is crucial
