I have $250 max to spend on some decent speakers. I listen to pretty much any genre, from classic to pop, metal, acapella, trap, EDM etc. Is Edifier R2000DB a good speaker for this price point?. Should I split it between a sound card and some lesser speakers?. If so, please give me some combo suggestions.

. If you can spend $250CAD, I recommend the Elac Debut B5 (not the B5.2, those are expensive) paired with an Aiyima A04 amp.

For less than $200 US at BestBuy and Amazon, you can get the Sony SS-CS5 Bookshelf speakers and the Sony SA-CS9 10" subwoofer.  Look at the YouTube reviews, an amazing deal (audiophile quality).  I just picked these up for myself this week.  I am so impressed with the sound quality.

As said, I don't really know anything about speakers. I've been wanting to get a pair (just 2 decent sized ones) for awhile but I haven't gotten around to it and money is a constraint as of right now as well.

I'm looking to spend around $150-$250 CAD for a pair if that's realistic at all, or just for a single speaker. Down the line I could also go up to $300 Canadian or so (for a pair or single). Preferably I'd like a pair, but if I get a single and quite like it then I'll get another regardless. I'm thinking that much for a semi decent pair might be silly. I'm fine to get an amplifier too. I don't have much of a preference but I feel like passive speakers might be better for me. I really don't know though (any advice on that is appreciated too). I live in Canada, so Amazon CA is available to me, and if the manufacturer has an online site that ships here then that as well. I don't have an audiophile store near me. 

As far as sound preferences go, like I said I don't know anything about speakers but I am quite fond of headphones. I'm definitely more towards a warmer sound signature. If there's a decent pair in mind like that, I'd probably quite like it. I still like detail in the sound but I get more enjoyment out of a smooth, warm sound. I don't want it to completely mud over all the sound though. If there are more bright and detail oriented pairs, I'm interested in that too still, I do enjoy my Beyerdynamic over ears a pile. I'm fine with using an equalizer for basic adjustment. The speakers will be in a bedroom or living room. Just a regular sized room in either case, nothing big or crammed. These will be used for everything from music to movies to games. I would really like to up my movie game though, because currently I'm using the speakers built into my 2012 Sony Bravia and I know I'm missing out big time. 

Thanks for any help. Also, what're the decent brands (ie the Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic of speakers), and what're some ones to possibly stray away from?

I would look at the Aiyima A07 on the cheaper end and the SMSL DA-8S on the nicer end. The speakers will play when the headphones are unplugged, and the headphones will play (and the speakers will be muted) when headphones are attached.

Hello everyone, I am new to the channel and I am blaming you for my slew of recent purchases LOL. I have always had a "system" in my car and now I'm getting one for the office.

The p\[picture I attached was taken back in 2019 when I first purchased my desk. Some aesthetic has changed but still looks very similar. Just to give you an idea of what it all looks like. I will post a final picture in a few weeks.

I bought the two KEF Q150 last night and they will not be here for about 2 weeks or so. Q150 amp/soundcard questions

Light gray color and no grills. What surprises me is how well it pairs with any amp, I tried out the Schiit Vidar, SMSL SA300, and Aiyima A07. It sounds great with all with the SMSL being my favorite of the three. The speakers don't even need the subwoofer for my genres of music, as it's surprising balanced sounding

Tekton Pendragons arrived!

I upgraded from my JBL Charge 4 to the Jamo S803 speakers paired  with a Aiyima A07 Amp and I really love the way these speakers sound. I reccomend these if you are looking for speakers under $200 and also reccomend the amp as well.

My first good system.

 Keeping the amp at 40% and upping the source to max output got things as loud as I could reasonably want for nearfield listening. High volume but before distortion really kicks in. You could still crank the amp up a lot more but I didn't see the need.  I still prefer a class A/B amp

Poor power supply.  (Vendor is working with me to resolve issue)

 4mm banana plug fit nicely to speaker binding post. - Small footprint, but still produces enough power to run my Floorstands with ease. Sound is clean, detailed and musical. - Does not get too warm to touch even when running loud for hours, so good efficiency and comes with AC adapter power supply

 - Volume control pot is very helpful, I normally keep mine around half way and control power from TV or preamp. - I use heavy RCA cables but still amp remains stable, small but good build quality and looks good too. 4mm banana plug fit nicely to speaker binding post. - Small footprint, but still produces enough power to run my Floorstands with ease

  Overall, a very good power amplifier with loads of clean power without distortion for its price. Highly recommended.

5A PSU if need 300watts, but supplied PSU works well with clean output needed for my floorstands at least. - Small size and so speaker terminals are close to each other. Be careful if connecting bare speaker wires, avoid strands touching amp chassis or other terminal. I would highly recommend buying banana plug for clean and risk free connection

Small, Portable, Powerful and Amazing for the Money!!! Highly Recommended.

I had a couple old speakers laying around and was looking for a way to use them again. I came across this amplifier after reading glowing reviews on audio science review. The speakers I am using are a pair of Fisher XP-6 which are 8 ohm speakers. I used to have these hooked up to a Pioneer receiver a long time ago and I don't remember them ever sounding as good as they do with this amp

 It has been a real joy over the last couple of weeks to listen to music thorough this amplifier. I’m hoping soon I will upgrade my source.  I am blown away by this amplifier and highly recommend that you try it. The form factor is amazing, and for me pairing it with an old smartphone I had makes it way more functional than that bulky stereo receiver I used to have

5 mm jack output. So far the sound adjustments I have been able to make improved the music even further. It has been a real joy over the last couple of weeks to listen to music thorough this amplifier. I’m hoping soon I will upgrade my source

  I like the weight of the volume knob too, it feels very solid, not cheap. I usually only keep it about a quarter volume. This amp gets loud. I haven’t even turned it to max volume yet

So much power from such a small package Highly Recommend.

It's also my second A07 amp, so I've had plenty of time to evaluate everything with a wide variety of source audio, and rule out any confounding psycho-acoustic factors. Though note these tend to get revised over time with better components (see photo)

 With either one, the sonic amplification is absolutely stellar.  I'm using one A07 to power my main speakers (B652 airs) and another to power my left subwoofer and C452 air center speaker. The mains are driven to their maximum potential using the stock power supply, with plenty headroom to spare. The LFE + C however, greatly benefits from a 48V PSU due to much greater power demand

 It's also my second A07 amp, so I've had plenty of time to evaluate everything with a wide variety of source audio, and rule out any confounding psycho-acoustic factors. Though note these tend to get revised over time with better components (see photo). With either one, the sonic amplification is absolutely stellar. Massive hidden potential!

For the money, this little power amplifier is fairly impressive. The sound staging, clarity, and stereo imaging is way above what this unit is worth and it can drive fairly efficient spears quite loud. Now with that being said, there are a few things that are needed to make it perfect that I would be willing to pay more money for. First off, the power supply that comes with this is a bit anemic to drive harder to drive speakers loudly

 I know these are just nitpicks, but there's certain basic features I can't live without. So with this in mind, I would have to recommend either the significantly more expensive ($250-$280) SMSL A0200 or the Sabaj A20A over Aiyima's A07 and A08 until they can include a subwoofer pre-out and a remote control.

 There is an upgraded version of the A07, the A08. The A08 has a built-in power supply that puts out more power and has a Bluetooth receiver, but still no subwoofer pre-out or remote control. I know these are just nitpicks, but there's certain basic features I can't live without.
