5.11 Rush 12 2.0 Review - Solid Budget Friendly EDC Backpack

 I'm looking for recommendations on backpacks that would be good for family day hikes in hot/humid weather (and in cooler weather). I really want something useful that doesn't result in an immediately sweaty back!

 Another nice feature is the drainage holes at the bottom. If the water bladder springs a leak the water can quickly drain out the bottom before soaking the entire pack (it's happened to me before during hikes or MTB rides, I crashed once on the MTB and sprung a leak).  I do have a couple suggestions for improvement: 1) I hike in the mountains and hills of Japan when I visit the country and I would like to use this pack as a carry on item with my notebook PC. The pocket in the main compartment is wide enough for most notebook PC but it could be better

I like it. got it yesterday, gave it a test today: 9 mile trail run 1,500 elevation gain, 1.5Hr. Loaded the backpack with 10lbs dead weight, 2L of water, Trekking pole, and K-Bar knife with holder

Good molle system pack without setting you back 100s of dollars

 I have noticed that they are already showing some wear marks. Again nothing major, as I do carry 45lbs of weight and use the pack to go on 5-6 mile rucks almost daily as well a few extended 10-12 mile rucks on a few weekends. Total time with the pack on per week is probably somewhere around 15-20 hours.  Overall a great pack so far

I love the additional bladder storage compartment to keep my water ...

.but maybe a tight fit with the laptop in one of the bigger inner pockets. Quality on the 12 looks good.

  Not a fan of the chest strap. It is all the way up almost to your neck. I think it would be better off a bit lower.  The hydration pocket is a bit odd

Good for a heavy commuter

This pack has worked out great! I wanted something smaller than the RUSH24 (I’ve had that pack for years) to build a pack for indefinite sustainment. A larger pack makes it easy to overfill with stuff you don’t really “need”, and that translates to more weight. My goal was a pack that equaled 10% of my body weight (or 18lbs). This pack fit everything perfectly snug

I took out the insert and cut it down (hard material to cut), hasn't been an issue since.  2) The straps shoulder straps tend to loosen up with normal use. It's a minor annoyance than anything, but I could see some people not enjoying having to do that all the time

 Not a review for orca tactical I cant speak for their quality I just know size is an issue in my opinion for the $. If I had to do it over again I would have gotten the rush 24 as it would have better suited my needs capactity wise.  For the $ you pay the main compartment is quite small. I can get a way bigger bag from Orca tactical for less than half the price. Not a review for orca tactical I cant speak for their quality I just know size is an issue in my opinion for the $. If I had to do it over again I would have gotten the rush 24 as it would have better suited my needs capactity wise

I heard great things about this brand through the urban gentry you tube channel and could see online that the products like quality BUT when I purchased a wallet when it arrived the proportions are tiny! Can hardly fit my credit cards in the wallet, the slots aren’t wide enough. I’d send it back but I have personalised it with my intials! Bad buy. Wouldn’t recommend the wallets. Sizes are ridiculous

I purchased a Montagu messenger bag with a high expectation based on YouTube reviews of Carl Friedrik bags. After I received the Montagu, I was disappointed. The flap is not flat and is curved up at the lower corners. It looks totally different from the picture shown on their website

 And then you know that it's been made in Italy or somewhere rather than, you know, Bangladesh or somewhere that would obviously be much cheaper. Carl Friedrich also sell their goods directly, so there's no end retailers adding any kind of profit or markup onto the items, and what that means is that you're getting really high quality items but much more cheaply. Okay, so let's unbox the item, this is still in the sellotape, I haven't unboxed it at all so you'll get to see what you would see if you were buying this item, so let's carefully unbox this because obviously it's on loan, and then we'll have a look at the item inside. So on this back side we've got slip pockets here, we've got a leather plate and that says on it, Cal Friedrich, designed in London, handmade in Italy, Tuscan vaqueta leather

 So also on this back side there's a zip pocket here, a reasonable depth zip there, so I have a hands depth so you could put again phone or whatever you want in there. All these zips feel like nice quality as well, I believe these are Italian hardware zips, the last thing you want on a nice bag is a cheap zip, it's just not worth it because it's so difficult to replace if something goes wrong, these all feel like nice zips. So we turn that around, look at the other side we've got two pen loops there, pop a pen in, and then we've got an unzipped section here as well, so an open section there. So of course one of the things that people often want to use a briefcase like this for these days is actually as a laptop bag, because in days gone by people used to carry huge amounts of papers around, you know reports and files and things like that, and these days as things slowly go a bit more paperless, often times people are carrying a laptop or an iPad or something like that, and of course laptop bags come in all shapes and sizes, so what people often want is a laptop bag that's a little bit more professional looking, so if you're the kind of person who goes to work in a nice suit, you know a suit and a tie and you look smartly dressed or something, the last thing you want to do really is have a kind of black nylon laptop bag, you know that's a little bit cheap looking, so this laptop isn't mine, this actually belongs to my work, but because of the coronavirus I've been at home working at home since March, so I happen to have this work laptop here so I can show you this in the bag
