 I Know that it's about a little over 70 percent polyester, so if mainly polyester with a few different materials worked in. It is incredibly soft, kind of like a wool feel. Very very smooth. which again, is just even better because you're not gonna want to be wearing something that's uncomfortable and this is insanely comfortable

I purchased one of these thirst form Amazon and another 4 from the maker's website. I really like them. They are tightish but really comfortable. Quality is really good for the price and they are holding up well while running in wind, rain and snow

Lots of pros, very few cons

 The surface will ball up with fuzzies all over ruining the overall look of them. I bought 2 packs and all 4 had the same issue. Sorry, would not recommend.

Does not wash well!

 Dries fast, folds down to a tiny ball. Does not replace heavier base layers for Arctic conditions, but hey, at the price. One annoyance: the packaging is over the top - we received ours via online shipment in a non-recyclable bag, with the T's in a reseable bag (why?) that also cannot be recycled, and each with a tag attached with one of those little plastic ties that are a pain to remove without cutting a hole in the shirt. Hey, they're T-shirts! C'mon Costco, you can do better than this

Great for light duty use

Three stars because, even though they perform well, they shrink like crazy in the laundry! I'm normally a large but always buy XL because I like the extra room. The XL shirts I bought last year are so small, I can't wear them. I'm going to give these one more try by ordering XXL. If these shrink to the point where I can't wear them, I'll not buy them again

  I know I've got the same / right size, because the label and the width of the torso both match the older, better fitting shirt.  And it did this right out of the package, so no issues with it shrinking in the laundry.

PCT NOBO Shakedown Request

I'd go with Smartwool 250. 100% merino. Don't wash it too much, let it air dry and it'll retain its shape and last for a long time.

Hello all! I’ve been shopping around for base layers, specifically merino and I’m wanting some advice.

I purchased the merino wool 80%, polyester 20% long sleeve extreme merino from Mountain Warehouse and I wore it this past weekend. I loved how warm it kept me and that it didn’t smell but it stretched out so much, like 2 sizes more than when I got it. Also, it started pilling between my thighs after 2 nights. Given that I purchased it for $55 I’m looking to give something else a go. 

I’ve seen that sportchek has helly hansen 100% merino long sleeves for around $60 on sale and I’m debating about purchasing one. 

What I want to know is if merino wool/polyester blends are known to stretch a stupid amount. Also would you recommend the blends or a 100% merino shirt given the details and criteria I have listed below. 
I’ve been checking out used gear sites and thrift stores but nothing is meeting my needs unfortunately. 


Important details: 
- Chest is 38 inches
- Medium in shirt. Want this base layer to fit snug. 
- Budget is $80 for a long sleeve shirt 
- I am a 23 year old female
- Warmth and reducing odours are most important
- Will be used for sleeping in a tent back country in Ontario (mostly around Algonquin from late summer to mid October)

Advice wanted for women’s merino wool base layers!

 In terms of wash and wear the base layer bottoms have met my expectations. I have washed these pants somewhere between 20 to 30 times at this point and I've only noticed minor balling along the seams. I should note I'm diligent about hang drying any of my Smartwool products to keep them looking new and I do recommend that you do the same. So for those of you looking to keep warm and active throughout the winter check out the Smartwool Merino 250 bottom base layer

 pants, they are way softer than I would have imagined. Last year I tested the

 women's PhD printed tights which included a combination of merino wool,

 that's not the case at all. This base layer is 100% merino wool creating a

 softer, thinner material when compared to the PhD printed tight. There is however

 still a stretchiness to them that make them extremely comfortable. The wider

 band at the top that you can see here also adds to comfort level as you don't

 get any of that uncomfortable pinching at your waist. Over the past six to eight

 weeks I've used these base layer pants for various outdoor adventures from

 hikes to snowshoeing to ice fishing and conditions ranging from plus five

 degrees Celsius to minus 25 degrees Celsius and I've definitely been

 impressed with their warmth and wear. Though you will find yourself getting a

 little too warm if you're doing any brisk activity in weather above zero

 degrees Celsius. What you need to know before buying any Smartwool base layers

 is that they come in different warmth levels. The Merino 150s are created as a

 year-round base layer for more mild weather whereas the 250s which is what

 I have here are for cool to cold weather. Though Smartwool doesn't get specific

 with actual temperature ranges use your best judgment on your personal activity

 level and what you'll be using these base layer pants most commonly for. The

 250s have been a great choice for me considering the colder winter we've had
