Hihat buying help

Best bang for the buck is probably used Zildjian New Beats - super versatile and they're very common so I often see them in my local used market (Boston area) for prices in the low $100s but I understand prices are inflated in Australia. Nevertheless, I'd save up and keep an eye out for a decent set of used hats like this than buy anything new for that cheap. They will serve you better than anything new at that price point.

I guess it all depends on your style but in my opinion, they cut way too much. Previous reviewer says he uses them in jazz scenarios, but I find that the Bliss line of high-hats are far superior for jazz, and for most other types of playing except for rock i guess. Budget Cymbals for Beginner( somewhere in between the beginner and intermediate stage)

They are more durable and sound way better. Check reverb, gumtree and eBay offerings around you. *You can make a cheap drum sound good, but a cymbal, you get what you pay for*. That said, look out for a pair of used Zildjian New Beat Hi-Hats in a good condition(no cracks, dents or major scars), if you find a pair at a good price, Get them.

Used professional quality ones from Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. I've seen Zildjian New Beats, the standard for hi-hats for decades, sell used as cheap as a hundred bucks. That's what you're looking for, or something like that.

I recently got a set of barely used Zildjian A Custom 13” hats for $150 through FB marketplace. I happened to find someone who used them for a bit and didn’t need them. Just keep your eye out for deals like that. You can usually get Zildjian New Beats for around that cost locally or perhaps a little higher on Reverb.com.
