 The wood does have a beautiful quality to it, but the knives sit very low (as far as the angle is concerned). I did not use the block for steak knives, but it looks like it might make things a bit awkward. I ended up buying a stand up, round, plastic knife block that is GREAT and takes up a lot less space on my small counter top. I would definitely recommend buying the knives, but not the block

 The one thing I had a problem with was the blade spine just in front of the finger guard/bolster on the chef's knife. If you use a pinch grip the angle between the spine and the blade is really oblique, and any use of the knife for more than about 5 minutes really begins to irritate the skin of the index finger. So if you're not using it constantly such that you can develop a callous, it can be very uncomfortable. After considering options, I took my Dremel tool and simply smoothed off the edge, which solved that issue

5 inch paring knife, a 10-inch serrated bread knife, heavy duty scissors, and a honing steel. One thing I like about the chef's knife is that it is relatively light compared to some others – I have a Calphalon "Precision" knife set and the Calphalon chef's knife is about 18% heavier than the Wusthof (319 grams vs 271g for the Wusthof). The 6" slicer is probably the sharpest of the set, which is saying a lot, since they're all really sharp. The paring knife doesn't get a lot of use, and the bread knife is great for baguettes or ripe tomatoes for example

Beautiful knife set! My husband and I purchased this set after our wedding as an upgrade to an old Cuisinart set I'd had since college. There is absolutely no comparison in quality, these are so worth it. The knives feel wonderful in the hand, the contoured handles have great grip, and excellent balance. Started rusting in the first few days.

I knew my previous knives were bad but did not realize how sucky they really were until until I got these. Cut through a red onion last night like butter. So very pleased with this purchase!  These knives are steel, not stainless steel, and require special care. Not only do they need to be hand washed and dried, the rough side of a sponge will even scratch them but take care of them properly and you'll love them!

Good balance, a nice weight and size for my hands, and they make prep *so* much easier and faster. I've held on to an old set of Chicago Cutlery knives for 30 years out of pure inertia. A friend of mine who is a chef has ragged me about getting decent knives for the last 5 years or so, and he recommended these for their quality. I'm so glad I listened!
