Presumably you folks know which brands or models are at least the most serviceable, if not the most reliable. We've heard the consensus loud and clear to stay away from Samsung and LG, but outside of that it seems opinions diverge on long-term reliability. Long story short our own research has brought us to the Whirlpool WRF535SWHZ and the GE GNE27JYMFS which frequently go on sale for $1800 or less.

If you have hard water, I’d upgrade to a model with a water softener system. If the budget allows, people really like the crystal dry feature on some of the higher end 800 series and Benchmark models. If you enter that price bracket, I’d also compare with the Miele G7000 series. * Fridge — not a bad choice, I’d also consider a French door model with an internal water dispenser and internal ice maker in the freezer such as model WRFA35SWHZ or WRF535SWHZ.
